At night, the Everfree Forest was even darker than usual. By the dim firelight, Meadowlark sat in the center of camp. While a night patrol was out in the forest, Meadowlark had been tasked to make sure nopony left the camp without permission.

Meadowlark sighed. Suddenly, she heard a twig snap behind her. The pegasus whirled around and saw the culprit, Roly Poly. Beside her, Victorie Moon facehoofed.

"Why are you two still up?" Meadowlark asked, approaching her friends. "Bedtime was an hour ago."

"Victorie was gonna describe how the forest looks tonight," Roly replied.

"Do you have a problem with that?" Victorie asked, frowning. "Your mother may be a leader of this colony, but my mother is Trixie, the most powerful unicorn ever!"

Meadowlark rolled her eyes. Victorie had to bring Trixie into everything, didn't she? "Well," Meadowlark replied, "that doesn't have anything to do with the situation. But as long as you stay in my sight, I guess there's nothing wrong with what you're doing."

"Thanks." Despite being blind, Roly grinned directly at Meadowlark. She had gotten good at telling where ponies where, Meadowlark figured.
