Though perhaps not as popular as some mane six ships, Rarilight has nevertheless brought up an interesting possible dynamic. Rarity and Twilight were, at least at the time of the show's early days, the most prestigious of the central cast, with one having aspirations of high living and another being the literal protege of the nation's ruler. One sought the very life that the other had just walked away from, and thus meeting up in the middle. I'm not saying Rarity would have sought Twilight as a means to a better life or anything, far from it, but it's interesting to perhaps consider that Twilight would maybe look on at her fellow unicorn (back then anyway) with bemusement as she idolised and looked on with rose-tinted glasses at a life she's only dreamt of, while knowing full well it wasn't as perfect as she thought it would be. The two have always been close though, and it's forever good to see them together
