Rarity has never really had any interest in having a boyfriend. Granted, there is the odd time where she’ll flirt with a guy she thinks is really sweet or cute and she’s had her fair share of crushes over the years, but the fashionista has always felt like she doesn’t need a man to make her happy. All she really needs to enjoy life are her friends, her family (particularly her younger sister), and her budding career in the fashion industry. And even of she wanted to be in a relationship, she would want to be liked mostly for her personality and not her (admittedly beautiful) appearance, which is why whenever a boy tries to woo her just because they think she’s ‘hot’, she instantly (yet politely) turns them down and carries on with her day. On a particularly nice Saturday, since her friends and sister are busy, Rarity decides to head to the Canterlot Mall to do some weekend shopping. She also decides to forego wearing her geode as she feels she won’t need it for what she has planned. Presently, the fashionista is standing around near the food court, texting to Applejack about some of her favorite purchases of the day so far (including a rather nice red cocktail dress), when a dapperly-dressed boy she vaguely recognizes from school walks over and gives her a friendly greeting. After finishing her text, Rarity pockets her phone and greets the boy back in a cheerful voice. The boy (who’s name is Crimson Heart) then goes on to say that he has seen Rarity at school quite a few times and that he wanted to tell her personally that she is the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen. The purple-haired girl is very flattered by the comment, but after a few more compliments based solely around her appearance (and one or two mentions about any guy being lucky to date her), Rarity begins to realize that Crimson is just another boy who wants to be with her just because she’s pretty. As such, she thanks him for his kind words, but politely asks to be left alone. Crimson agrees, but before he goes, he gives Rarity a present: a necklace with a pink, heart-shaped jewel pendant studded with little pink gemstones. Rarity thanks him for it (admitting that is rather beautiful) and puts it on. However, what she doesn’t know is that the necklace’s gems are enchanted with Equestrian magic and causes whoever wears the necklace to fall deeply in love with the first boy they lay eyes on. The instant Rarity clamps the necklace around her neck, she starts to feel a little lightheaded as the magic starts to infect her mind…

Closing her eyes, Rarity shakes her head in order to shake the dizzy feeling. Once it goes away, the fashionista opens her eyes (which have turned pink due to the magic) and looks up at Crimson Heart, who she now gleefully identifies as her boyfriend, a clear sign that she is under the necklace’s spell. However, Crimson (who intended this from the start) is pleased by this development and gives Rarity a few more compliments about how beautiful she is. The spellbound girl is quite pleased by this praise and even strikes a few poses to show off her body and outfit. Crimson also proposes the idea of Rarity moving into his apartment (where the boy lives on his own). The purple-haired girl readily agrees to the idea and says that they should celebrate by having lunch at a fancy restaurant downtown. When Crimson agrees with his brainwashed girlfriend’s idea, Rarity decides that she needs to put on something more formal and suddenly gets another idea. Picking up her shopping bag, Rarity gives her ‘boyfriend’ a peck on the cheek and says that she’s heading to the restrooms to get changed into something she knows he’ll like before running off to do just that. When she returns, she is wearing the red cocktail dress she was telling Applejack about earlier with a pair of black open-toed high heels on her feet, an outfit that Crimson says makes her look ‘20% sexier’. The two then share a kiss before walking out of the mall hand in hand. As they walk, Crimson thinks to himself about how glad he is that he finally has Rarity all to himself (even if he did win her heart using mind-altering magic) and nobody can do anything about it……
