Description:

When Discovery told Primrose he would do anything it took to make her happy, he meant it. After their wedding, he packed up his bags and moved to Canterlot to be with her, where she could be at home where she was happiest. He missed the orchards dearly, but Primrose’s happiness made it all worth it. After all, happy wife, happy life.

The worst part, he had to admit, was the parties. Even worse than their newborn’s cries, Primrose’s dinner parties were extremely overwhelming for Discovery. They were noisy with chatter and crowded with ponies he hardly knew. Primrose was happy and that was all that mattered, but at this point Discovery was barely holding it together.

Discovery gripped his piña colada, forcing a smile as he mingled with his wife and a couple other mares. He looked down at the drink, thinking of how much he missed the homemade cider of home—no, he was supposed to stay focused and on topic. No derailing the conversation like last time. That made things awkward.

As the chatter around him blurred into noise, Discovery quietly tapped his hoof and counted to himself in his head, hoping nobody would notice him struggling to calm himself down while he stared at his drink.

When he finally brought himself back to the present and looked up, his wife was nowhere to be seen.

“W-where’s my wife?” He asked the strangers next to him.

“She went off to mingle. She cannot socialize only three guests the whole night, now can she?” One mare answered.

“Did you not see her leave right in front of you?“ The other mare laughed, then went on to continue her previous conversation. “Anyway—“

But Discovery didn’t hear the rest of the conversation as his panic spiked even more. He wasn’t great at reading ponies, but those mares were surely making fun of him. Even worse, his wife, his only constant in this high-society world, was nowhere to be seen. He could no longer think straight as his hooves began to visibly shake.

“Mister?”

Discovery felt a hoof on his shoulder, a stranger’s hoof. Before he could think, he jerked his foreleg, not even realizing what he’d done until the mare started screaming. She was drenched in piña colada and surrounded by broken glass. He had thrown his drink at a stranger.

“Oh Celestia, miss, I’m so sorry-“ He made to comfort her, but her friend shot him a look so dirty that even he knew it was best to stay away. That he had really messed things up.

He looked down at his shaking hooves, the ones that betrayed him by instinct. He couldn’t stay here. He’d done so much damage, he could never hope to make it right. All eyes were on him now, he just knew it. He couldn’t deal with this, no matter how hard he tried for his wife. He’d let her down.

As Discovery fled from the scene in shame, only one thing brought him solace: at least Primrose was having fun.
