Having first met in university oh so many moons ago, Vinyl and Octavia hadn't truly been best of friends, let alone lovers, at the start. Through heated debates and passionate talks over music genres and preferred tastes, the two slowly but surely became more intimate. Vinyl having been one of Octavia's first true friends, and Octavia being Vinyl's first love and awakening moment within herself as a bisexual mare. As years passed, the two would settle down, finding time within their schedules to start a family.
This didn't truly fair well for the two in the end for multiple ways. With Vinyl having made the choice to start her own career as a DJ and found herself rising in the ranks in the music world, this started a resentment in her oldest friend, Neon Lights, that only solidified when she settled down with her wife. Starting a family also proved a challenge when complications arose at the birth of Rolling Record, sadly leading to the death of Octavia. Though Octavia had passed away at the birth of their child, Vinyl vowed to look out for young Record as best she could, choosing to retire early to keep her full attention on the young foal.
The Capella Family
Aria Capella had met Neon Lights on an off chance in her work place. Having worked as an exotic dancer for a number of years, Aria had started off trying to gain the attention of the one hit wonder celebrity who had just come in for yet another drink that day. Though what started out as a business endeavor soon took a turn as Aria had taken a liking to Neon, ending in a heat of passion later on after work. Though, what Aria first thought as a blooming romance slowly turned to a sour scenario as Neon come to realize Aria was pregnant with his child. He didn't want a child. He was still trying to get his "budding" career afloat. He wasn't just going to give up like his "friend" had. Though unexpected, Aria had tried to get Neon to see the side of reason. Maybe there was a future between them that could lead into something more? But Neon wouldn't learn to see that reason. With the knowledge of his child on the way, Neon had left money for Aria, and left without a trace, leaving Aria to raise their son alone.
Fun(?) Facts!
- Vinyl had had more than a rough time trying to handle all that had happened after the birth of Record, So much so that she often kept the story of her mother away from Record. This wasn't out of malice though, it was mostly due to the trauma of having lost her true love, losing her career, and having to raise a child alone all at the same time.
- Record's full name is Rolling Melodic Record, Melodic being a reference to her late mother's last name 'Melody', and Record being a reference to her late uncle (Vinyl's Brother), Record Flare.
- Vinyl does eventually tell her daughter about her late mother, though there grew a reasonable tension because of it, through talking and explanation Record and Vinyl grow closer together because of it.
- Record has a talent for singing, something that she gained from Vinyl, though Vinyl insisted on teaching Record to love the finer things in music like her mother Octavia. So she ended up learned violin, piano, and of course, Cello.
- Back Beat wasn't always known as 'Back Beat', his full name is Soulful Serenity Sonata. Though he grew to resent this name because of the influence of his father and how his father views the name. He uses the name 'Back Beat' as a way to appeal to his father, though he knows absolutely nothing about rap and what it takes to rap in a cipher.
- Back Beat's true love is for singing. He specifically loves pop, blues, rock, and secretly country music.
- Although Back Beat loves his father, his father most certainly does not love him back. Neon mainly sees his son as a reflection of himself, the more Beat tries to be like him the more he ends up resenting him. Especially when it comes to Beat's friendship with Record. Their friendship only sets a reminder for Neon of his failed friendship with Vinyl and his eventual downfall of his career.
- Neon is often forced to spend time with his son because of Aria. While she doesn't want Neon to set an example for Beat, she also doesn't want him to live without a father. This serves as a major issue in not only herself, but between the relationship Beat and Aria have.
- Neon serves as a major roll model in Beat's life, despite not only Aria's reservations, but also Vinyl's. Though she isn't reminded as much about her past as much as Neon is because of Beat, she most definitely sees the similarities between Record and Beat, and her and Neon. She just hopes she can help Beat realize he doesn't have to live in the shadow of his father through as many small nudges as she can.
- Record, Aria, Vinyl and Neon are the only people that know about Back Beat's real name. Though his parents use his real name more often than anyone else, Record only uses his real name when the situation is serious or their just playing around, these situations are obvious to tell apart by tone.
- Despite what Back Beat tries to set between the two of them as far as rivalry, Record sees their relationship as more of playful banter more than serious trash talk between actual rivals. Record will often twist Beat's words and joke around with him whenever he tries to trash talk. This often leads to Back Beat either disoriented or joking along with her.
