The heroes of the group finally reached the town of Trottingham in the north of the Griffish Isles. The town is surrounded by a wall that is probably meant to keep out whatever might theoretically come out of the nearby Shetland Forest. Above the gate is the coat of arms of the Griffish Isles which shows the coat of arms of Equestria (the stylized royal sisters) above an island in the sea. The coat of arms is bordered by the inscribed motto "Scutum de Equestria" which (hopefully ;)) means "Shield of Equestria".
The ponies living there see their role as a "shield" with a mixture of pride and sardonic sarcasm well aware that the job of a shield is to get beaten up; or in case of Trottingham and the Griffish isles sanctioned with some rather unpleasant conditions in the treaty of Trottingham that ended the last war with the griffons 27 years before the events of our RPG adventure.
Speaking of griffons, as the player group approached the gate a griffon sitting on the wall next to the gate leaped down to them and nonchalantly introduced himself as Galahad, "the local griffon spy". This left the player characters with the difficult decision to think of that griffon as either a spy or a lier. Galahad pointed out that there was no point in being more subtle about it since ponies in the town would introduce him as a spy anyway. Moreover, he said, it was no less illuminating to learn what ponies didn't tell a spy as what they would tell to some griffon else. This may have made the characters in the group somewhat nervous. Not only are they privy to a crucial secret related to succession to the throne in the griffon kingdom (from the group's previous adventure), but also to the fact that the Bunte Yak was (unintentionally) beached with a cargo of muesli on the Griffish Islands; with the Treaty of Trottingham prohibiting any food imports to the island this might in the worst case actually be seen as a casus belli!
"Spy" is not actually the official job description of Galahad which would be more along the lines of adjutant to Ginevra, the embassador of the griffons and leader of the griffons stationed at the "Griffon Tower", a former pegasi weather tower on a tiny island in the bay of Trottingham that had been annexed as part of the treaty of Trottingham.
All that is left that I can tell about Galahad at this point (to avoid spoilers for the players in the group) is that his "birdy" parts resemble a budgie and that he enjoys nibbling foxtail millet.
