Tiki woke up feeling very unrested and immediately knowing where he was. He laid in bed and quietly surveyed the room. Decoration was sparse and the whole room felt cold, unfortunately the blankets did a poor job of warming him. There was also someone else in the room, the pony he had seen last night. Upon closer inspection he noticed distinct stripes and realized the equus was likely a zony, a zebra/pony hybrid. They were sleeping still, snoring, and he felt anxious at the thought of dealing with the potentially hostile person when they woke. Rehab centers attracted all sorts, not all friendly. There was a loud knocking on the open door to his room and he jolted to a sitting position. An orderly announced it was time to rise and wash up before breakfast was delivered. Tiki dared to ask what would happen if he failed to wash up in time, the orderly firmly replied that any noncompliance would simply not be tolerated. Tiki stopped asking questions, feeling that this was a good time to shut the hell up. The zony in the other bed then addressed him with a chipper tone, pleasantly surprising Tiki. Kiburi Trotter was his roommate’s name and he was in fact a zony, a rather large zony Tiki couldn’t help but notice. Tiki then noticed Kirubi's odd hooves which were cloven like a unicorn’s. Kiburi became bashful and revealed he was adopted by a rather wealthy unicorn couple when he was four and they had his hooves cloven artificially, a cosmetic choice controversial yet shockingly common among upper class ponies with non-unicorn children. Tiki asked if it hurt, Kiburi said it still does if he walks incorrectly. They cleaned up, made their beds upon Kiburi’s strong suggestion, then sat and conversed until another orderly came by with their breakfast trays. Tiki regarded his food with disappointment. Scrambled eggs, one toast, a jelly packet, a tangerine, a carton of 2% milk, and alfalfa. He looked to his roommate who was happily chowing down, and felt better knowing he was in good company.
