Judging from mahou shoujo anime, I think it's like, ancient Japanese tradition to have the heroes prominently present their cell phones to call forth their magical powers. That, or their beauty makeup compacts.

Most people are fatigued towards technology and consider it of low taste to normalize such. People become detached from reality the more time they spend with their smartphones. Soon there will be time when noone, not even a single human left on earth, will be allowed not to have those handy things, and, honestly, that irritates me. But it doesn't irritate those who were born just recently and use phones on a daily basis. This process of adaptation takes time. Currently we are in the middle of this unstoppable shift. And who knows, maybe if the emojie movie was released 10 years from now, people would've actually liked it (because instead of pushing the trend it would've provided some comfort in a world where smartphones control 99% of our life: our schedule, purchases, banking, rent, hobbies, social connections and social credit). But for now, companies should refrain from speeding things up and rubbing phones in people's faces as being normal. The shift will happen naturally and in 30 years from now there will be no people left to complain.
