Description:

I've been brainstorming ideas for my universe, and it's been a lot of fun to be working on it after such a long time (universe name is pending. might just do cometverse, but im not sure). As fun as it has been, I had an epiphany when I couldn't sleep at 4 am due to thinking: I have neglected Spike.
Fun fact: Spike is actually one of my favorite characters. A little annoying at times, but a fun character to work with and make head cannons for. So I was kind of surprised.
So I did a bunch of Spike doodles and headcannons. I did a very sketchy style for this, but I think it works out for sketch dumps so I'll stick with this for when I'm lazy and just wanna doodle some headcannons.

1. While Spike hasn't really had a chance to say it out loud, he very much considers Twilight as a mother. She raised him, cared for him, and was a big reason of why he hatched in the first place. It isn't quite normal for dragons to have such openly affectionate parental figures, so, as a dragon, Spike is very abnormally affectionate compared to other dragons.

Some notes about how Celestia got Spike's egg in the first place:
- Dragons aren't known for having very maternal instincts. It's survival of the fittest out there, so maybe that isn't too surprising. However, some mothers have a habit of abandonding their eggs due to hatchlings just not fitting into their lifestyle. Most of the time, they just dump the egg someplace. It's also more common than not for an egg or two to be left behind during the dragon migration, and Spike's egg was no exception. Maybe he was lost, or maybe it was truly just a mother dumping behind an unwanted burden. Either way, Spike's egg was found by a team of observers, and his egg, as others, was taken to a rehabilitation center in Canterlot.
- Spike got lucky as an egg, as many other species find dragon eggs to be a delicacy. And while illegal in Equestria, there are still some underground establishments that have no qualms cracking up a few eggs for a quick buck.
- Dragon eggs are notorious for not hatching for years after being found. Dragon eggs hatch in one of two ways, either through the flames of a parent, or an extremely powerful unicorn. Dragon flames are able to provide a hatchling with enough strength in order to begin life, and is the easier way for eggs to hatch. On the other hand, unicorns will have a much more difficult time. Even the most powerful of unicorns will struggle to pour in enough power into an egg for it to hatch. If a dragon egg is found abandoned, it will be sent to a rehabilitation center, and can be borrowed by different institutes in order to find a way to hatch it. Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns is one of those institutes.

2. A comparison between Ember, a dragoness who was born and raised in the tough enviornment of the Dragon Lands, and Spike, who was raised in a soft pony society. An interesting thing about dragons is that they are extremely adaptable to their enviornments. Looking at Ember, she developed her sharp spines and long horns to be able to better compete against her own kind as well as protect herself from predators. She has strong claws and a durable tail, used to breaks rocks open for gems inside.
And then's there's Spike, who has soft, squishy frills and a pudgy body. He's adaptable to be more suitable for pony life, and has also never had to compete for his life in Equestria. Some dragons will look upon Spike in shame, but Spike really doesn't mind. It's thanks to him that so many advancements have been made in making a steady alliance between the Dragon Lands and Equestria.

3. A full body sketch of an older Spike. As the ambassador of the Dragon Lands, Spike wears the badge around his neck as a symbol of his position. Although, when not needed for ambassador work, Spike continues to be the assistant/secretary/right hand man to Princess Twilight and can usually be found by her side.

4. When Twilight announced her pregnancy, Spike was eager to take his place as the baby's future Uncle. Of course, when Astrid Comet was born, Spike's heart melted as he held her for the first time and he couldn't help but blurt out, "I have a little sister!" And, well, the label just stuck. Still though, Spike loves his little sisters to bits, even when they're little hellions.

5. Whereas Astrid is Spike's little sister, Piers is his baby sister. The two bond over their shared affinity of fire, Spike being a dragon and having the natural ability to breath fire, and Piers, who has strong elemental magic.
Here the two are probably playing with fire in the garden or something. Twilight's probably gonna yell at them for being reckless afterwards.

6. Since it's a next gen universe, obviously Spike's gonna have a kid of his own. And I honestly love the dynamic between Gabby and Spike, so I just had to pair them together. I left the egg design vague because I haven't designed the kiddo yet.
