it's time for….BABY HEATHCLIFF DAYS!!!!
1) I see a lot of headcanons that rainbow dash would either not want to be pregnant or would not like it because she wouldn't be able to fly or zip around and while I think those are both true on some level also consider: one of rainbow's key personality traits is loving naps. Being pregnant is the perfect excuse to take as many naps as you want. Dash would enjoy taking advantage of this.
2) Gilda and baby Heathcliff aka: egg.
I'd imagine after nine months of a pretty active pregnancy Rainbow Dash was a little miffed she gave birth to a literal egg. How was an egg kicking her bladder for the last four months? How?!
Gilda however, was more than happy to incubate their little egg child. Since she's a griffon this is all pretty normal to her, griffon pregnancies are usually only a month or two long followed by several long months of incubation. Sometimes she'd get really emotional staring at the little egg, thinking about the endless potential it held…then Rainbow Dash would come in and she pretends to be asleep…and RD pretends she didn't just see her wife being a total softie.
Fun fact: griffons have a birthday AND a hatch day and they celebrate both, though the hatch day is usually more important. But since birthdays are important in pony culture, Heathcliff gets a huge party for both. Kinda like how kids with Jewish and Christian parents sometimes celebrate both Christmas and Hannukah.
observant viewers will notice I redesigned Heathcliff's egg, mainly because the old design was a weird mess I don't really remember how to replicate. The new design is a lot cuter and has baby pteri from neopets vibes which is ideal
3) dork mom and tiny cub son
RD's glasses are hard to draw and idk how they stay on or how she can even consistently see out of them considering her eyes are sometimes front-facing sometimes not depending on how I draw them. she really should wear goggles but that does NOT look good or really translate as "visual impairment" so much as "cool goggles". so for anyone who asks: magic. Just assume anything I can't explain is pony universe magic or something
4) One day Twilight Sparkle, the ever-wonderful and caring friend she is, offers to watch exhausted parents Rainbow and Gilda's son Heathcliff for a night. They assure her that while he is a high-energy little cub, he's a perfect angel and tons of fun, if a lot of work. And he is!
As long as one of his mamas is around.
Heathcliff throws a little fit whenever he's left with someone who isn't his mamas. Even his grandparents were the victim of this for the first few months of his life. Of course, the more time he spent with his family the more he came to enjoy their company. Eventually, he even warms up to close friends of the family, and Gilda and Rainbow can go on date night without coming home to an injured babysitter.
In case anyone isn't familiar with the classic 90s dinosaur sitcom Dinosaurs. my girlfriend at first refused to watch the show because they found the baby's voice annoying but then I showed them the finale episode which is weirdly morbid and that got them interested, and now they love it. Dinosaurs my beloved
