Backstory: Before she received the title of Madame, she was named Madeleine. She was born and raised in the same forest where Harper Fox was from, where ponies could shapeshift into animals as long as they had their special amulet on them (In Madeleine's case, she has a collar of a cat, which meant that she could shapeshift into a cat). However, one day, when Madeleine was only a teenager, she learned the ability to shapeshift to other ponies besides her cat form. Shocking the entire forest, this lead to Madeleine being banished from the forest for eternity. It was hard for Madeleine to go through homelessness, but she was used to it eventually.

During her travels, she met Queen Chrysalis, who took her in as not only her apprentice, but also her daughter. Over the next few years, Chrysalis had trained her to become the new Queen of the Changelings in the hope that they would be powerful enough to conquer Equestria. However, Madeleine couldn't help but feel sorry for Chrysalis's subjects, especially Thorax. After Thorax took over Chrysalis's throne and became King of the Changelings, Madeleine quit her apprenticeship with Chrysalis and fled to Canterlot.

During her new life in Canterlot, Madeleine legally changed her name to Madame for the sake of her privacy and her regretful past. She was also enrolled in magic school due to her impressive magical abilities. During this, she became Friday the 13th's rival, and she was also jealous that Friday was dating Harper Fox. In the end, Madame and Friday reconciled before Friday moved away to Ponyville to make it her second home.

Because Madame is one of the several unicorns who can shapeshift, she is famous all over Canterlot, though her fame can stress her out sometimes. In order to cope with this, Madame would draw and paint her favorite things in her life, whether it would be cats and dogs or rainbows, and most of the time, it helps her.
