ANYWAY, here we have First Officer and Chief Science Officer Mr Spock as a kirin, Captain James T. Kirk as a pegasus, and Chief Medical Officer Dr Leonard "Bones" McCoy as an earth pony! Spock's color palette is the only one of the original three I'd previously colored (in a Galileo Seven drawing from June) which didn't change, except for adding the eye highlight color. Kirk I did shortcut by color-picking from Grand Pear; it didn't seem right to change perfection, lol. Wink/Razz As to their chosen species, kirin Spock was the easiest decision: that head tilt alone from The Sounds of Silence MLP episode fit his character perfectly, and the dual nature of kirin is such a good mirror for Vulcans; it also solved the issue of Spock being a visually distinct half-human alien. Kirk, like Chekov, was always going to be a pegasus, with his outgoing and adventurous spirit and the sheer quantity of, ahem, relationships he engages in (for some reason, pegasi strike me as very fun and flirty, lol). And McCoy is, as he says, just a simple country doctor from Georgia, so naturally he's a warm and earthy earth pony.
For all of the ponified crew, I tried to keep as much of the original characters' traits as possible, especially with their eyes and hair. Everyone had such clean-cut hairstyles in TOS that it was a little difficult picking out enough differences to make each mane and tail style unique, but I love where they all landed. Love None of them have cutie marks and I don't intend to give them any, mostly because I don't really enjoy drawing/keeping up with cutie marks, but in my headcanon (wow, I never have headcanons, lol, what's happening to me?) I like to think that ponies have evolved out of cutie marks by the Trek era, which seems to be supported by their increasing minimization across the generations, lol.
