“Hey, Love Letter!” Val greeted excitedly, immediately noticing his exhausted expression. “Been busy today?”
“Only every second of the day.” He responded, his wings drooping the moment he landed.
Nodding in understanding, the unicorn glanced down to her service dog and then back up to Love Letter, her face starting to turn red. “If your shift is almost over, we can go grab some smoothies as a pick-me-up.”
The stallion perked up at the idea, but glanced up to the sun to check the time and immediately sighed. “That sounds great, but I still have 3 hours to go. By the time I finish, your moms will be wanting you back for dinner.”
“Oh, of course.” She said, grinding one hoof against the ground slowly. “I wish there was something I could do to help.”
“Hey, don’t worry about it! Getting to visit for a few minutes is nice. I should be getting back to it, though. Hoity Toity has been sending out waves of invitations for his sister’s birthday, so I’ve been delivering them to ponies all day.” Love Letter flared his wings out, as if stretching before getting ready to fly off, but stopped when Valentine Frappuccino pulled out a letter of her own.
“Well, do you have room in your satchel for one more?” She joked, glancing from the letter to him repeatedly. The envelope hovered in front of him, her magic levitating it right into his hoof.
Once he had the letter, the pegasus grinned. “You know it, always room for letters here. Who’s it for”
Val blushed even more, her face burning. “It’s actually for you.”
“Oh, for me?” He went to open it, but the unicorn stopped him quickly.
“No, not here!” She blurted out, immediately realizing how loud she had just been. “W-What I mean is, you should open it later. I wouldn’t want to make you late for anything.”
Love Letter stared at her, eyebrows raised, before tucking the letter into his shirt pocket with a shrug. “Alright, if you say so.”
“Well, I should get going!” Valentine said quickly, starting to turn and trot away before he could question anything further. Her service dog, ever faithful, immediately fell into step with her as they entered their house, leaving the pegasus wondering what just happened.
He continued his shift dutifully, bringing letters to everyone on Hoity Toity’s list until he had finished all his work for the day. Since he had flown all day, Love Letter decided it was worth the money to just ride the train back home, giving him a chance to sit and relax. As the train started moving towards it’s next stop in Ponyville, the stallion remembered the letter in his pocket, and casually opened it.
As he read the contents of the note, his face turned red and his feathers ruffled, leaving him rather speechless.
Dear Letter,
I know it probably seems super weird to write you a letter when I know I’ll be seeing you in Canterlot today, but I knew I wouldn’t be able to say anything without acting weird and looking silly.
I really like you. Like a lot. I don’t know if you’re seeing anyone right now, and if you are PLEASE feel free to pretend this letter never happened. I don’t want our friendship to be ruined, but I also didn’t want to pretend I didn’t like you if you ended up liking me, too.
Anway, if you ever want to talk about it, feel free to stop by my house or Mom’s cafe. If you don’t, I totally understand.
Hope to see you soon, Valentine
Love Letter had read the note three times before he could start to think straight, and even when his mind started to settle, it was still moving as fast as the train. He had been crushing on Morning Glory for what felt like forever, but he always felt hopeless because he could never speak to her. With Valentine, talking felt easy.
Without any idea what to do, the stallion tucked the opened letter back into his pocket, knowing that if anyone could give advice about this, it was Pazazz Apple.
Looks like I’m making a trip to Sweet Apple Acres…
