My headcanon is that lots of unicorns have telekinesis, but few many have the level of fine control, or the raw power, to use projectiles as ranged weapons. Accelerating a half inch steel ball bearing to the speed of sound in a few feet is non-trivial, even with magic.

In the same way a hydraulic wood splitter is redundant if you have an axe. The amount of energy spent firing the gun is much less than the amount it would take to accelerate a slug of metal yourself.
