So yeah, I'm not big on the latest installment of My Little Pony, I thought it would have clicked with me since I loved the previous three generations but it didn't. Some things were just off here.

1. Are those ponies or bug eyed donkeys?

The previous shows may have had multicolored ponies with symbols on their flanks but the artists and toy designers knew that they're still ponies and should resemble them. G2 went for a more realistic horse look while 1 and 3 based the designs off the cute Shetland ponies with a little stylization.

G4 on the other hand? Horrid looking wings on the pegasi, thinner bodies, GIANT FREAKING EYES and tiny muzzles. Their heads look more like someone's first attempt at drawing manga style that was put on a thin horse's body.

2. Traditional VS Flash animation

The first shows may have had their animation errors, but not nearly as much as FIM. I felt there was a lot more detail put into the character designs and the backgrounds, while the recent show makes the characters look more like flat cutouts.

The colours aren't as lively as G3 but don't use nice pastel like 1 and 2. Character models are reused over and over again, and that's not just the case for the show-

3. The toys are a real disappointment.

Back then there were so many different kinds of MLP toys one could find. Scented ponies! Jewel encrusted ponies! Rainbow Curl, flutter ponies, twice as fancy! I could go on and on about how much variety the older toys had. But it's much easier to talk about how lazy Hasbro's been with their toy line lately.

Now the only brushables are the main characters, all the others are tiny models, hell some of the bling bag ponies are actually RECOLOURS of different characters. The play sets are just flat cutouts, each pony toy has no distinct difference from one another from each wave of toys, no cool scented or pearly looking ponies. Yeah they're not nearly as good. Lately the toys are now sold in bags, dirty INSIDE said bags, have some errors on them like the stamped eye looking wonky and whatnot. It's like Hasbro just stopped caring about the toy quality.

I know the toy rant is much longer than the show, but My Little Pony is a toy line first and the shows are just their toy commercials. And if the toys are bad, than the franchise went downhill.

4. Botching up characters

I know we were originally supposed to have Firefly, Sparkler and Surprise here but for some reason the writers couldn't get them. So they thought to bring in the G3 characters and completely alter their personalities.

A sporty pony that loves competition and is a tomboy? Why not use Sunny Daze? Nah, let's turn the mature, stylish and posh Rainbow Dash into her total opposite.

A diva fashionista who's rather vain about her looks? Rainbow Dash would have been perfect for her, but for some reason they turned Princess Rarity from an adventurous and rambunctious little tot into.. Well, that. And completely altered her design to make her almost completely unrecognizable.

Pinkie Pie went from the group leader who loves pink and is all for having fun into a loud, annoying party animal who isn't funny and has possibly the worst voice in the show.

Scootaloo used to be a sports girl and the same age as the others, but is now reduced to a foal without a symbol on her for some reason. I always thought that's just something their all born with, like how each person has their own fingerprint.

Sweetie Bell went from an advid baker and a little timid into (for some reason) Rarity's sister who"s also without a symbol. I don't remember much of her so please excuse me if I don't know what she's really like.

Cheerilee has had different alterations over the years, but the one that stuck with me was her as a purple unicorn and Rarity's mentor and mother figure. The new Cheerilee looks more like Cherry Blossom but for some reason is now a teacher in FIM.

Spike is just pathetic now, and I find a real downgrade to his G3 counterpart who was more mature and willing to help out.

5. The fanbase

Just.. Wow.. I never expected a bunch of "Nice Guys" to be interested in this show. I know they're not all like that, but a lot of the fans really turned people away from the show with how they act and their untagged NSFW art. And don't get me started on them sending rape and death threats to a girl who spoke out against a really misogynistic comic which glorified rape jokes.

So yeah, that's why I don't like FIM. It's fine if you like it, I just could never get into it.
