Celestia check the schedule planner one last time to make certain she hadn't missed some detail about tonight and tomorrow. Closing the tome the white alicorn levitate it into an open drawer of her desk. With that accomplished she locked the drawer and levitated ring of keys in front of her and closed her eyes. There's a brief flash and the ring of keys vanishes.
With that task completed the Co-Ruler of Equestria looked over at her sister. Luna was lying on a divan in the office. Her jade green eyes watched mischievously as her older sister approached her. The Princess of the Moon could detect the tiniest hint of nervousness in her motions. Coming to a stop Celestia addresses her sister.
"Okay Lulu. The sun has been arranged to set and I'll raise it tomorrow at its prearranged time. I've double checked with my staff and ministers and there's nothing on my schedule for Sunday; however if any emergency comes up you know how to–"
"Celly." The Prussian Blue alicorn cut her sister off mid-sentence. "We've discussed this repeatedly. For the last couple of years. Between my return, the war with the dragons up North last winter, Discord sudden reappearance, our operation against the Associations in Manehattan, your concerns for Last Thing, and the upcoming Royal Wedding you've been going nonstop!"
Luna rose from the divan and stepped forward and gently nuzzled her sister. "You've earned this. Go! Have a wonderful evening with her. She's expecting you and I know you've been looking forward to this."
Celestia returned the nuzzle. "Of course Lulu. You're right." She stepped away from Luna and slowly strolled into the center of the office. She closed her eyes and from her horn an intricate combination of colored light starts dancing from it. After a few seconds there was a brilliant flash and when it subsided the alicorn was gone.
Heartbreaker made one final check that everyone was just right. Normally her housekeeping was at best a haphazard affair. However she never let the dishes pile higher than the top of sink, but for tonight's festivities the mare spent most of the day cleaning the Neighpole's bungalow she was renting. As she arranged a vast array of cushions on the living room floor she took a mental inventory of the provisions she'd procured for the evening.
Bourbon, beer, rum, brandy, champagne, seltzer water, cigars, mushroom spinach cheese pizzas, pretzels, cookies, ice cream, cake, cake, more cake. Yep! That's everything. Smiling she stepped back and awaited the arrival of her special guest.
The clock on the mantle had just started chiming 8pm when the center of the living room started to glow and shimmer. Then the room erupted in glorious golden light. When it faded Celestia stood before her.
The Scale Bearer stepped forward and stopped at the prescribed distance from the princess the chocolate brown earth pony bowed to her. Her ivory white socks, mane, and tail were almost golden yellow in the light of the setting sun. In keeping with tradition she held the pose for 2 seconds before rising and looking the alicorn in the eyes and grinned.
"Evening Sunny." Grinned the mare.
"Good evening to you as well Heartbreaker." Celestia had equally impish grin on her face.
"Hungry?" The earth pony took a step forward.
"Very." The alicorn took a step forward herself. "But we can dine later."
Without another word the earth leap forward and tackled the princess. They were both laughing and giggling as they toppled into the piles of cushions.
To be continued.
