> Use the Rune of Shackles! It was inscribed by Princess Twilight herself, so hopefully it's powerful enough to stop this creature…
You roll a 9 (required 10). Partial success.
You glance over to the bat ponies helplessly scraping at the rubble blocking the town's entrance. Then, you meet Apple Basket's worried eyes, an unconscious Moonflower draped across his back.
Finally, you face the grootslang again, determined to do everything you can to hold the line. You swallow hard, and put on a brave face.
In one swift motion, you spin around on one hoof, swap the Yggdrasil seed for your rune of shackles with the other, and attempt to kick it toward the creature.
You use Rune of Shackles.
The runestone shatters, and in a flash of magenta, a wide net of magic fetters springs forth.
The giant snake drops from the ceiling in an evasive maneuver, but a few of the shackles still manage to hit their target, and close around its neck. Glowing chains soon shoot out in every direction, seemingly tightening it in place.
The grootslang roars a strident screech in frustration, then stares you down once more, eyes now filled with malice. Its next words drip from its mouth like venom.
Grootslang: "You would fight back? I think not."
Suddenly, its massive tail slams into the side of a stone wall, causing the ground to shake with such magnitude that you nearly lose your balance. Distant echoes of terrified screams redouble as a few pebbles hit you from above.
Once the worst seems to have passed, the grootslang's trunk extends in your direction, somehow even more expectant than before.
Grootslang: "One last chance. Give me the jewel. Or this feeble cave… will be your tomb."
Just as despair threatens to overwhelm you, a faint sparkle of hope catches your eye: a flickering light coming from the dark tunnel to the west. Help is on the way, you can feel it in your heart.
