As her birthday with she was turned into an alicorn, her mother Sombra and father Speed Wing decided to wait until Aurora could decide if she wanted to be an alicorn or not. As you can see she said yes. Aurora may be the princess of magic but learning to fly? She was horrible at it. Midnight couldn't teach her (not that Midnight ever used her own wings to fly, she just floated everywhere)
