Description:

G4 purists are the new boomers of the fandom. If something related to G5 is happening, they like to degrade it just to say that G4 was cool back in the day.

Since the premise of Make your Mark has been leaked a couple of days ago, it might be a good time to talk about this.

A little bit of context first: A couple of months ago it was revealed in the description of a box from a toy that king Sombra, one of the villains from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, might return in G5, possibly in Make your Mark. Many fans have been saying that "this doesn't make any sense", particularly when it comes to the particular way that G5 pretends to be a sequel to G4. I completely understand the concern and the mentality of personal ownership.

However, I have to say two things:

1. We’re talking about the description of a toy. A piece of information that we know without context by a toy from a pony generation that we know very little apart from the film A new generation, two upcoming TV shows and some comics for little kids. After all, in the previous generation we had toys such as pink princess Celestia and Applejack driving a truck and, as far as I know, these toys never appear in Friendship is Magic.

2. You can’t act like “this doesn’t make any sense now” when the G4 also had narrative problems and constant changes over the years. It’s not like the G4 writers were strangers to making lore and character changes in MLP:FiM in massive ways anyway. It has a lot of jank and lots of random and baffling creative decisions that changed the show in massive ways. I find this argument pretty silly, especially when the same objections can be found in many episodes of MLP:FiM that the complainer enjoys without question. I find it either hypocritical or highly biased.

And keep in mind that I haven't mentioned infamous and commented details such as the dragon who pretended to be Spike's dad in season 8 and Grogar twist in season 9. These details are silly, but they're very easy targets, so I want to take a step foward.

I'm sorry but no matter how you try to spin it, you can't bash the G5 with assumptions based on non-contextual information and concluding with "this is gonna be messy" when Friendship is Magic has been messy all this time and had the same type of problems you are compaining about.

Besides, it's not like it's a weird thing. Tirek was in G1 and G4 and they're not the same character. Same thing with Applejack. She was in G1 as well as in G4. Maybe Sombra will be another character that has nothing to do with G4. I might actually prefer that.

We still don't know too much about G5 apart from one decent movie, but jumping to negative conclusions about something we've read without context is silly, especially if you don't apply the same complaints to G4. Be reasonable, be patient and wait until we see the new TV show. I think MLP:FiM is pretty good, but we should let the G5 to be its own thing. There are so many possibilities for the show, particularly with lovable characters such as Sunny Starscout (the G5 cannot have a more appropriate main character for this story).

Ever since G5 was announced, it received some criticisms that I think are unfair, at least those that are meant to compare G5 with G4 just to make G4 look good in comparison. And I want to adress these complaints.

I hope I made some fair arguments, I hope you guys aren't too outraged or anything like that. Let's get some civil discussions on the comments even though I know that's not gonna happen.

PD: I think a megaphone as a cutie mark will fit that pony from the first panel.
