Glare is a young Griffon from Griffinstone and the son of Gabby and Spike. He's also the older triplet brother of Giggle and Geoff.


Not so long after Gallus and Grandpa Gruff made amends with each other after their argument nearly four years ago, Gallus and Spike found the courage to propose to their girlfriends, Silverstream and Gabby, with a little help from their friends and family. Gallus' proposal took place during a tryst next to the beach, while Spike proposed to Gabby during a date in "Power Ponypalooza", a Power Ponies convention. The girls reacted with pure joy, both crashing their fiancés with hugs and kisses. The two couples decided to have a double wedding, which took place in Mount Aris.


A few months later, Silverstream and Gabby were pregnant (Silverstream was pregnant for a second time; Galicia was a few years old)! They were both squeeing about how they were expecting babies and kept squeeing, while Gallus and Spike's jaws were on the floor. The two had many uncertainties and believed they wouldn't be good enough to be fathers (and Gallus didn't expect to have another baby), but with some encouragement from their beloved consorts, they put away the doubts and decided to enjoy every moment of this. Gabby gave birth to three Griffon-Dragon hybrids, two boys and a girl. With the help of Ocellus, Twilight, and A LOT of books about rare non-pony species and hybrids, Gabby and Spike discovered that the three bundles of joy were "Zilants'', also known as simply "Dracogriffs". According to their findings, like many other dragon hybrids, Zilants resemble their non-draconic parent more in their silhouette and general build. Like Griffons, their colors tend towards the more natural-looking and earthy. They tend to have a similar color pool to dragons, scales on their backsides, horns, spines, dragon-like tails, with feathers on the ends, wings that switch from feathers to skin halfway down, and draconic bird talons (meaning they look mostly like bird talons, but are shaped similarly to dragon claws). These hybrids are capable of breathing magical dragon fire, although their bodies are much less flame-proof than a full-blooded dragon's, but are still able to take in hot temperatures despite their feathers. Spike was happy to hear that because that meant he could take his children to the Dragon Lands without worrying they'll get hurt by the lava.


The oldest one was a healthy baby boy that, like his siblings, looked like his mother in body shape, but had the wings and tail of his father. Just like Gallus and Silverstream's kids, Gabby and Spike's triplets weren't named right away. But Glare was named first, mainly due to the fact that he always scowled. That's because he liked mimicking his adoptive great-grandfather. Spike wasn't really sure about calling his child that way, but Gabby thought it was really funny. Of course, the little one didn't glare all the time. Just at things he didn't like.


Glare is a little troublemaker who is usually very quiet, but mischievous. He enjoys playing the piano and the guitar, like Spike, and playing the clarinet, like Gabby. He likes it when he and his family visit the Dragon Lands and gets the chance to play in the lava, claiming it's the best thing since sapphire cupcakes. He and his siblings have inherited from both parents and have an equal amount of Griffon and dragon skills, such as the ability to send scrolls with their breath, a perfect cross of a lion's roar and a dragon's roar, and digest gems. He likes Cutiemarks the same way his mother does, but since he's unable to earn one of his own, he's often seen having a post-it note stuck on his flank. On the note, there's a doodled rainbow lightning, since he's a fan of Rainbow Dash, especially after Auntie Gilda told him about her. He loves hearing Grandpa Gruff's stories, though not as much as his honorary cousin, Lil' Gruff. He usually has a plaster on his head due to getting into frequent fights, either with his siblings, his friends, or Lil' Gruff. He loves playing Ogres & Oubliettes and is into all types of sports. Having inherited his parents' goodness, he really likes helping others. In general, Glare isn't easy to impress and can be annoyed rather quickly. Usually, he's the first to make a snide look or comment toward things he doesn't like. Still, he's just as naive and sweet-natured as his siblings. Much like his honorary cousins, Glare and his family don't really have a stable house, for they go back and forth to Ponyville, Griffinstone, and, sometimes, the Dragon Lands, Canterlot, and the Crystal Empire — though they mostly go to the latter three for vacation. Though, Gabby and Spike are planning to have a house between the territories of their hometowns to be closer to their friends and families. Glare likes going to all of those places, but his preferred choices are between Griffinstone and the Dragon Lands. In his opinion, most of Canterlot's residents are too uptight and snooty to stand, the Crystal Empire a bit too 'regal' (plus, tempting not to snack on the crystal walls, taking Glare's huge appetite into consideration), although playing with Flurry Heart is an advantage, and Ponyville is like numerous alternate clones of his mother in one place. That, and because it's hard to take a bite of the crystal bowls without Aunt Twilight noticing. He likes Griffinstone, since he gets the chance to see Auntie Gilda and hear more about Rainbow Dash and to see Grandpa Gruff too. He gets very amused when he hears about his mother's misadventures with Uncle Gallus. After all, the elder never skips the chance to embarrass the two of his grandchildren to his great-grandchildren ("I assume that the loudest one must be your father." — "Let me guess, your mother breaks the most vases in the house."). As for the Dragon Lands, he's all over the hot tubs of lava and dragon activities, like The Feast of Fire, the Dragon Bowl, and Claw-chella. Also, he's never going to admit it, but he's a big mamma's boy.
