Worth it.

He was supposed to be lying in the grass, but backgrounds are hard and I didn't have the time to sit and contemplate 3 grass blades for an entire day. Lots to do this summer, and not enough time to do it. The shading I feel is fairly good, I pushed the colours a bit. I'm using a a mixture of an older style of shading, where I only use 100% hardness round brush for the most part, alongside a few newer techniques. After recently looking back on my older art, I realized I did like the old style quite a bit, and the new cel shaded style I had been doing felt a bit lifeless. It was, however, worth it for learning as I think it helped me to learn where shadows go, at least to some extent. Another major factor for the switch to cel shading was just time constraints. Trying to draw one thing per day was very taxing during the semester, especially this one as my CMPUT 401 team was constantly on fire. I even made one of my daily drawings about that, which I'll probably post eventually since it turned out well. Now that it's summer I have more time, and I'd like to continue to develop my skills with my older style.

All in all pretty happy with how this one turned out, only very minor changes, which were basically just tweaks to the eyes, were made past the first pass. In total about 2.5 hours were spent on this, mostly between 4AM and 6AM this morning.
