Since Saturday was Chrysalis Day (Cheese Day), here's something that's been on my mind for a while; this is an AU version of Chrysalis that I've created.
The difference with her is, at the end of the events of To Where and Back Again, after Thorax convinced everyone in the Changeling Hive to side with him and the metamorphosis occurred, followed shortly by Chrysalis' throne exploding and demolishing half the hive, instead of declaring revenge against Starlight and running away, Chrysalis relents, recalling that her initial objective, as stated all the way back in A Canterlot Wedding, was to obtain food for her kind. And she remarks that it's not worth fighting and trickery anymore if even a plan that got this far didn't end up working.

A side event to this AU is that, while the show implies that every single Changeling was at the hive during the metamorphosis, here, there were several reconnaissance squads that had not made it back to the hive before the metamorphosis happened, meaning they missed out on it, and as such will have to cope with their queen's decision just as much as she will have to. As such, the Changeling society ends up being a mix of the dark and colorful drones, and they're not all just the same; not all of them choose to change form either. As for the matter of the dark drones feeding, well, Chrysalis works out some kind of deal with pony society.

Now, this doesn't come without difficulties; Chrysalis and many of the pre-metamorphosis drones are only hesitantly following the peace treaty, particularly with Chrysalis stating herself that she's only begrudgingly going on with it for the aforementioned reason. She doesn't like it, but she's accepted it's the easier route at this point. She's got a chance, and she's taking it, if only just so she can lay back a bit more on the weekends. …she still has a grudge against Starlight, though.

And that's my AU. If this particular version of the idea has not been done a whole lot yet, feel free to use this version of Chrysalis for visual interpretations of it. This AU also happens to have a change where some Changelings, the Queen included, have variances in their bodily structure, which mostly you can just use to be like "Oh hey, that's that one AU Chrysalis". Also her name in this universe is pronounced "Cry-Zalýs"
