I wanted to draw something pretty. I've also been planning on doing a headcanon version of Cadence à la the one I did for [Twilight](https://www.deviantart.com/jackiebloom/art/Twilight-Headcanon-914913644). Cadence is pretty, alicorns are extra pretty, seems like a natural choice.
Pegasus:
In my nextgen verse, Cadence pre-alicornification was a pegasus. She was still a teenager at the time, so it's unclear what she'd have looked like as a non-alicorn adult, but for a teenager she was pretty average. Due to living on the ground, she had slightly less powerful wing-muscles than her pegasus peers who lived in cloud cities where they always flew everywhere. But not enough so that it was particularly noteworthy.
She did have what was considered very pretty colors; multiple colored manes are very attractive in the modern era, and her pink suited it nicely. Her cutie mark was pleasing in color and shape. Plus, the way her mane shone a bit like that of a crystal pony (not that anyone knew that's what it looked like at her village) made her a bit more interesting. So she did certainly have her admirers in school, but she wasn't too memorable or unique that anyone passing though the village would look twice or remember her.

Ascension:
Then that happened, and she suddenly was very memorable.
Aside from suddenly growing a horn, she like Twilight, had a few more changes happen immedietly. She grew a bit bigger (and spent a lot of time bumping into things) and her cutie mark changed. At the time, no-one but Princess Celestia had any idea of why or how, and even she just had guesswork to go on. She recognized that it looked like the Crystal Heart, but… why she wasn't sure. Sure, once she realised who Cadence was she remembered the prophecy, but… what could have caused her cutie mark to change to the Heart if Cadence herself had never seen nor heard of it? And how did she even ascend in the first place?? With herself and Luna, she knew exactly what had caused it and why, but everything about Cadence was just a mystery.
Regardless of how odd it was, the fact that she now was an alicorn couldn't be denied —especially as she grew. And grew. And didn't stop growing, even as all her peers stopped. Even when she married Shining Armor, she had to have her dress altered from the first time she tested it to the actual wedding.
Actually, her height compared to that of Shining's specifically became a bit of an in-joke between them. When they first met as teens, she was taller. Then his growth-spurt hit. For a few moons, they were neck in neck; she grew taller again. Then he shot up again. Then she was in the lead for a while… until his final growth-spurt hit, and he reached his final adult height. And he got to enjoy a few good years of looking down at his wife… until she finally overtook him again for the last time. That's ok though; he loves his tall wife. And she loves being able to lean down to kiss him.

I want Cadence to be taller than Shining. They were cowards when they made her shorter than him; alicorns are supposed to be tall. She's already taller than the default stallion model, let her be taller than Shining.
Ahem. Anyway, aside from that I didn't go as far with her design as I did Twilight's. I just made her tall (taller than Twilight, shorter than Luna) and what I'd imagine ponies would consider classically beautiful based on Fleur de Lis and such ponies in the show. Long legs, dainty hooves, big wings, more slender and with less chibi proportions. I also didn't do much with her mane, just made the colors deeper, because I just like it a lot the way it is. Like how my princesses have different shapes, I think it's fun if they have a bit different manes too. So Twilight's is straight, Celestia's and Luna's are very wavy, and Cadence's is curly —they all just seem to blow in an invisible wind.
I did add some blue to her -her eyes, hooves and wings- to tie her back with the Crystal Heart a bit more, but I didn't change her colors as much as Twilight's. Just added some markings and fades to make her look interesting —incl. a heart-shaped forehead mark, because alicorn of love. Also, a tiny heart tattoo near her hoof she got from [Diletto](https://www.deviantart.com/jackiebloom/art/Reference-Sheet-Diletto-778362441) :] (It's based on how g3 ponies came with hearts on their hooves! Because cute)
