Description:

The next night Edward returned to the pub to see Elizabeth again. Elizabeth was happy to see him.

Oh, hello, Edward Here, take a seat.

Thank you, Elizabeth. Said, Edward.

How are you doing, Edward? Said Elizabeth.

Oh, I'm fine; I went back home from work to get ready.

So I could come here.

I'm happy that you came, how was work for you? Questioned; Elizabeth.

Oh, nothing much, washing dishes after the customers ate. Although, one of my co-workers told some of us about what happened at a table. Said, Edward.

What happened? Said; Elizabeth with curiosity in her voice.

There was a bunch of ponies at a table, and they were having a friend's birthday party.

One of them came up with the idea of putting the anniversary pony on the cake.

He did and laughed.

And the same pony threw a piece of frosting all over his face.

O-oh! Elizabeth then chuckled at the idea. That happened? Said; Elizabeth.

Yes, he told us, they all laughed; it must have been fun.

Edward said, with a slight giggle in his voice, and smiled.

Besides that, it was a regular day.

How was your day, Elizabeth?

Oh, not much, although; there was a stallion who drank too much apple cider and started singing a sea shanty.

Oh, what happened after that?

He fell asleep at the table; it was actully kind of funny seeing him singing that shanty.

I'm sure it was.

Elizabeth and Edward laugh together.

Until, BAM! the table made as a large hoof slammed into it.

BUSBOY! Elizabeth's boss screamed: You have too many plates, and the table isn't clean yet!

But, sir, said the uneasy busboy, I will clean the table as soon as I put the plates away.

Then get a move on! We can't have a filthy pub! He said as the busboy went to put the places on their shelves.

Edward had a face of concern and asked.

Why did your boss yell at him like that?

Elizabeth; then replied, oh, that is crimson thunder; he likes to keep the pub well kept he despises when things go wrong or have the potential to go wrong.

Elizabeth sighs; it's not like I have any other choice.

Edward wondered what she meant, so out of curiosity, he asked.

What do you mean?

It's a long story, Elizabeth replied, yet I will have to start from before I lived in pasture valley.

————————————————————————————————-

I once lived in a house with my mother and father in a beautiful neighbourhood.

My father worked as a clerk while my mother stayed at home.

I helped my mother in the house though I still had time to play with other foals.

Yet, due to my interest in reading books about legendary creatures, I was considered eccentric by other foals my age.

Despite this, I loved the town and my home; I thought it would stay like this forever.

That was until years later when my father became unwell.

My mother and I tried to help him and care for the house.

But after months of care, he passed on; we were devastated and worried about how we could support ourselves.

Days later, after the funeral, my mother found a job as a waitress, yet it was not enough for the upkeep of the house as time passed, and soon we had to move.

—————————————————————————————————

Despite living in an area of a town that was in disrepair, we found a home there.

My mother continued working; I helped keep the house clean.

Even though living conditions were challenging, we managed to stay healthy and keep our spirits up.

Over time, however, my mother became too old to work, so I had to find a job to support her and myself.

My job was the same as hers, and for a while, everything seemed fine; until she also became ill.

To help her, I worked as usual, but their pay wasn't good enough for me to get the medicine she needed.

I planned to save enough money to get her the help she needed, but in the meantime, I cooked her food to keep her healthy.

Fortunately, this worked, and she recovered.

We had to move one day because someone came to our door. He told us that because of renovations by the land developer, everyone on our street had to leave.

Although the food was expensive, we lived in a small town since it was all we could afford. Despite our high rent, I came to pasture valley to work since it was the closest town.

I tried to find the same job I had before, and even though it did not give me too much money, I still did it.

For a while, it was going well.

Until we had to pay the rent, I gave what I had, yet it was not enough; over time, I tried to pay the rent by saving money, but soon the landlord told us what we had was not enough.

I had to resign from the job I had for a new one; I looked and tried other jobs yet; the result was the same, so I found this place; I saw they paid well.

I was reluctant, but I had no choice; I didn't want to lose another home.

I had to accept the position.

My mother was disappointed when she knew; even though I made enough that we were able to pay the rent and I knew she still loved me, she didn't enjoy what I had to do.

Years later, she passed away peacefully; when I took her to the hospital, I was devastated; and alone in the house.

After the funeral, I knew to get from that house to pasture valley would be a long trip, and I wanted to avoid being late.

I asked crimson thunder if there was anywhere I could find a place to live in pasture valley; he suggested an extra room he had upstairs.

Previously, I declined the offer, but now that I need to live closer to work and need a place to stay where I can do this, I accepted the offer.

Since then, I've worked here.

Yet, it hasn't been easy either.

There was one case when a restaurant critic named Bonzer road reviewed all the dining establishments in town.

He was an upper-class stallion who reviewed the best restaurants in Equestria but wanted to review a pub.

He interviewed a few ponies, including myself, about the food; we all said it was flavorful, fresh and excellent.

Our ingredients came from our local farms and markets.

He said he'll think about it and come back the next day.

He came back, and he continued interviewing until he came to me.

He asked for a tour of the place; I showed him around, but I wasn't sure if he was impressed yet; he was writing down what he saw.

He wanted to continue our conversation about the pub tomorrow and left.

With time I told him about the decorations, Crimson Thunder's operation, and how we received our ingredients.

We got to know each other well, and he listened to my views on the pub and whom to talk to about its history, and he was friendly to me.

Though he compared this place to restaurants he had seen before, he said the adornments of the building were not to his liking. However, he is willing to ignore them for his job.

I knew he had a job to do, and even though I disagreed with him, I explained why we had those embellishments; and why our customers liked them.

He showed he disliked the food as well. I thought they were well-made.

He was willing to give the chef three more chances to improve.

Nevertheless, after these chances, he was tired of it and said the food was not worth his time. I told him that the chief did his best, and the food was supposed to represent the community, our farms and our homes.

He said the pub would never be like the ones he knew before.

And that he expected better from employees, including me.

I know the chef worked so hard on the food, and I did not want him to feel that he failed, I told the reviewer to leave.

He said as he left that this place would fail, and then left; I never saw him again.

————————————————————————————————-

Even if I didn't expect my life to become this way, I still kept myself happy.

With books; and outdoor activities, I even intend to plant flowers in front of my window.

Though I wish I'd lived in a lovely house, I'm grateful for what I have already.

—————————————————————————————————

I'm; so sorry that this happened to you. said Edward; sadly.

It's all right, Edward. Elizabeth said reassuringly.

I'm just glad you're here; you made my day.

Edward blushed; Thank you, Elizabeth.

Your welcome Edward, Elizabeth paused for a second and asked. Edward, what do you want to do now?

Well, is it all right that we can try some of the chef's cooking?

I'm curious about the other foods on the menu.

May I give them a try?

Elizabeth smile. Of course, Edward, come with me; I'll order them for you. Elizabeth told Edward

Thank you, Elizabeth said to Edward.

Later after they ate, Edward was about to leave, but they both stopped at the door.

I had a great time. Said, Edward.

I'm glad you did. Replied Elizabeth.

Edward, I want to ask you if you could come back whenever you get a chance?

`Of course, Elizabeth, how about the weekend; I'm off work if that is all right?

That sounds like a good idea. Said Elizabeth.

They both said their goodbyes, and Edward left.

As Edward walked back home, he thought about Elizabeth.

Elizabeth is such a kind mare; I wish she didn't have to face such difficulty.

I feel the same way. Henry, in Edward's mind, agreed.

Edward and henry went back home; and planned to meet Elizabeth on the weekends.
