> — Rainbow Dash thought it was so awesome that they got their cutie marks at the same time because of her rainboom. As a filly, she was convinced that they were fated to become friends and go on crazy epic adventures to middle-Equestria to save pony-kind from great evils, (may or may not be an excuse made up by Rainbow, who had been admiring the pretty pink filly for months beforehand). Fluttershy wasn't as convinced about their epic fate, but she did enjoy having a Rainbow Dash as a protector and friend.
> — Before long, Rainbow and Fluttershy were inseparable. Fluttershy would go out of her way to attend Rainbow's flight contests and cheer her on, and Rainbow was diligent in catching up to Fluttershy in the school hallways so they could talk and eat lunch together. Their friendship was filled with affectionate quips, ice cream, flight sessions, study sessions, sleepovers, little drama, and lots of gay thoughts and gay staring when the other wasn't looking. Whoops!
> — Speaking of high school, Rainbow and Fluttershy absolutely had an punk/emo phase. Rainbow leaned much more into the punk lifestyle, while Fluttershy leaned heavily into an emo lifestyle. Regardless, both of them huge fans of bands such as My Little Romance, Panic! at The Stable, and Flying in Reverse. No pony can ever understand just how dedicated they were to rock music- swearing to their grave that it is their life blood and their only reason for living… Not even their families, who were quite jointed at this point.
> — So of course, their families had supported them. They had never seen Rainbow and Fluttershy so dedicated to anything before, and if it makes their kids happy, it makes them happy! In fact, the very first concert they went to was a surprise gift to both of them from their families (My Little Romance is not a cheep concert to attend, and both of their families are middle-class at best. Their family scrapped together every bit and coin they could save for months, just to make sure their girls could go). Pictures above is their chosen attire for the concert, along with a very flustered Fluttershy who might be having one of those gay thoughts right now. > — A lot of time passes between then and when they finally get together (much to their parents's dismay. Good lord you girls are practically already married, just kiss already!), but eventually they do get the nerves to admit their feelings for one another. Well actually, Fluttershy got the nerves (after months of Rarity hyping Fluttershy up and telling her to "just embrace her darling, you two are in love already!"). Rainbow Dash was a blubbering idiot who had no clue how to respond to her lifelong crush telling her that she was in love with her. Don't worry, Fluttershy knows Rainbow, and Rainbow will eventually find her footing and respond properly… maybe after a splash of cold water in her face.
