Go to any video streaming site and look for video of the Muppets in HD. They are absolutely terrifying to behold when you're not looking at them in blurry hardware-dithered 320x200 resolution at 30 frames/sec on a 20th Century TV set with a glass-tube screen with the telescoping "rabbit ears" antenna sticking out of the top. They will haunt your nightmares.
I blame society, not the producers who just get replaced soon as they make interesting unbrandable content, by the people we all keep in power via our daily employment. Yes, we must now implement radical economic reform in order to have a pony cartoon that doesn't suck.
I have to admit I kind of like them. They're cute, and they're the kind of content the show could have had if the producers had been more interested in worldbuilding and coherent storytelling than in selling plastic ponies to eight-year-old girls.
I was going to say even Barney doesn't look that hideous, but I just looked him up again after not watching since I was like 5, and holy shit he may actually be worse. Why does every Pre-K show except Sesame Street feature such unnerving characters? How do they get past the committee?
