Nectarine is a Nightkin doe of the Peryton variation and is 19 years old. She is a farmer specialising in working with citrus fruit trees of many types, from lemons to oranges (a Nightkin’s favourite snack) all the way to satsumas and her namesake nectarines.
A survivor of the Sundering, Nectarine was discovered unconscious and alone on the outskirts of Farrier’s Grove, a small and insular town located fairly close to Ponyville, scant days after the horrific events that almost destroyed her entire species. At the time, she was only just 13 years old, losing her immediate family in the fighting.
Miraculously uninjured, but utterly exhausted by her ordeal and panicked flight, she was taken in at first by the town’s doctor and checked over, before she was referred to the town’s sole practising psychologist when it was discovered just what had happened to her.
However, mistakenly, Nectarine thought that she was the sole survivor of the atrocity and saw no point in putting the word out. But, regardless, she accepted therapy so that she might live out her life in some semblance of peace.
Now in her 19th year, Nectarine has recently moved into Sire’s Hollow and works as a farmer in an extensive citrus orchard setup in a forest clearing near New Sanctuary
Here, and after the entire town of Farrier’s Grove rallied around to get her all the help she needed, to which she is eternally grateful, she has become almost unrecognisable from the scared and paranoid little fawn she was. Where once the fear and terror ruled her by night and day, she became excitable, friendly, and rather optimistic in her outlook on life.
We at the Bureau have been informed that she loves to sing while working, not only to pass the time, but to help foster cooperation and friendship among her colleagues, who she always encourages to sing with her, and more often than not, she succeeds.
We have also been told that she has an infectious enthusiasm that Nectarine applies to almost every aspect of her life — from making new friends or just going shopping for groceries.
Cheerful, lovable, and with a smile that makes a day better for simply seeing it, Nectarine, or Tari to her friends, is a doe that seems to have the natural camaraderie and God-given ability to liven up a room once she enters it.
She has not, however, forgotten the harsh lessons of the aftermath of the Sundering and never will. Memories and visions of the past come to her unbidden on occasion, and this is the ONLY time you’ll ever see a frown upon her face.
But, for all the potential sadness, this very mindful doe redirects all those negative energies into positive outlets, no matter whether she is at work or out with friends. Even if she is home alone, she will rapidly find some way to re-focus and re-centre herself via one of her many hobbies.
And for those that are curious, whenever possible, Nectarine still travels back to Farrier’s Grove to visit those that saved her, and to catch up with her oldest friends- and likely will for the rest of her life.
When it comes to more personal matters, nectarine is a currently single, heterosexual doe. Seeing as her last known boyfriend was a unicorn stallion, most species are acceptable to her apart from males of her own. This is an utterly non-negotiable thing for her, as it is for apparently all of the known surviving Nightkin females — specifically due to the part that Nightkin stags played in the Sundering itself.
