This one is inspired by the fighting game concept of a "jab", which is a quick, light attack that, at 60 frames per second, usually only lasts about 20-25 frames in total. They also tend to "start up" (that is, enter their main key pose and becoming damaging) in about 3-6 frames.
I animated this at 12 FPS, which means those 20-25 frames are more like 5 or 6 frames, and those 3-6 frames of startup are more like 1 or 2 frames. Basically, communicating an entire attack, including its startup, follow-through, and its return to original posture in only a handful of frames. Fighting game animation and its limitations is fascinating, and I think it's a fun way to learn and experiment.
