A decade passed for Flurry Heart and she was miserable. Oh how she wished she was a baby again… Or better yet, never existed. Ponies in her class often made fun of her for being taller than other fillies and colts her age or having an overly sized horn and wings. Therefore, Flurry Heart often than not got bullied. Fillies and colts liked throwing paper balls at her horn or playfully bit the feathers on her wings. Flurry Heart had been insulted many times before which made it hard for her to friends with or love other ponies. "McFlurry? Flurry Heart? What's the difference? Did her father go to McDonald's when they named her? HA!" "Oh my god, her horn is as big as my baby brother! How embarrasing!" "Pfft, what is she a giraffe?" "She's no princess, she's a disaster. She's always helps us lose." "She doesn't help us at all! Her horn is too sharp and long and ruins all of the fun!" "Hey kid, your oversized horn is blocking the screen!!!!!!" "Those wings could be as big as Celestia's…" "Cool. Let's shoot some paper balls at that sissy 'Princess'". _ Flurry Heart tried, oh how she tried not to cry… She tried her hardest to remain strong. One night, she finally decided to talk to Cadence about it. Her mother responded by saying that she couldn't let it get to her. Then sparks of purple luminescent light gleamed brightly in the her mother's eyes. Flurry had never seen this in her mother before. Then, she held out a balled hoof towards her. "This… This, your friend Midnight gave to me to give to you. She also noticed that you've really been down in the dumps lately as well and she told me to give it to you when the time is right and I think now is a perfect time…" Cadence's magic sparkled as blue as the daytime sky in contrast to the night sky Princess Luna had brought upon them. The windows opened and Cadence released her long curls from her crystalline updo in the nighttime breeze. "Here…" She said. Upon Flurry Heart's eyes, there was a crystalline snowflake necklace twinkling in the night time. "Midnight always is very talented at making these…" Flurry Heart sighed. With the snowflake came a flashback on how she'd met Midnight, her first and only friend. Back then, Midnight was only five and Flurry Heart was eight. Despite the two's age difference, they'd became best friends. It was back in December of 2024…
The wind was howling like a werewolf was within the sky, the trees were trembling as white salt fell from the sky and whooshed past the horizon. Flurry Heart felt a chill run up her spine. It wasn't from the cold that was nipping at her nose, however, some pony had touched her. The pony in front of her was the bitter opposite of snow. Her eyes were cold and pitch black, her teeth were yellow and shivering, her hair was a deep indigo with violet streaks running through it and her coat was as dark as night. But… Her eyes… So dark and devastating, scared her most. Flurry Heart screamed and jumped on top of the filly on accident. "I-I'm sorry!" Flurry Heart exclaimed as soon as she had seen a childish innocence within the filly's eyes. "I'm sorry too, princess…" I just was wondering if there's anything you could do to help me keep warm… Maybe? Sorry if I scared you, I was born with pitch black eyes. I'm harmless, really." Her voice was gentle and sweet in contrast to how she looked. "You… Can have my scarf?" "Princess, no… I insist, keep it. You'll be cold." "I never get cold. Here, keep it. It's yours now…" Flurry Heart held out the scarf towards Midnight. Her hoof shook hesitantly for almost a minute. As Flurry Heart began to frown, she forcefully yanked it down causing Flurry Heart to let out a yelp. "WOW. You're strong." Flurry Heart laughed. "O-oh my! I'm so so sorry!" "Don't be." Flurry Heart giggled cutely as a giant snowflake landed upon her nose. "WOW! That is one big snowflake!" "I'll say…" Flurry Heart held the flake out in her hooves. "I'm surprised it hasn't melted yet." Midnight said. "M-may I hold it?" Flurry Heart gave Midnight the snowflake and it started to melt in her hooves. "How'd you do that?!?!" She asked. "Do what?" "The snowflakes in your hooves, they aren't melting!!!!!!" Midnight grabbed the flakes from out of Flurry's hooves and they instantly melted. "Since you don't have a cutie mark yet, maybe your talent will be snow related." Midnight giggled. Midnight's hair glistened with snow as she took a crystalline bracelet out of her bag. "Wow! That looks beautiful." Flurry Heart sighed. "Yeah. I have a knack for making bracelets, necklaces, and earrings made entirely out of glass. My mom has a bunch of glass since she's a crystal pony, but my dad is a normal earth pony and unfortunately, that was passed along to me." "That's amazing! How old are you?" "Five." "WOW." "I know, but I'm still really shy…" She blushed. "I used to get made fun of for my eyes and my teeth back in preschool." "I… Know how it feels… My horn is too big and so are my wings… But… I have no talent." Trickling drops of water fell down Flurry Heart's eyes and instantly froze within a few seconds. "You have talent, princess. You're amazing." "NO I'M NOT! I'm a disaster, I always ruin fun with my huge pointy horn and my stupid, stupid NAME!" Flurry Heart kicked snow onto Midnight on accident. Midnight laughed. "It's fine. I know you're amazing, but you don't want to admit it. You feel this way because of a birth defect and I have had a few too…" "You… Did?" "Yeah. I was born with a crooked nose and a missing hoof, but I have all 4 hooves now!" She smiled. Midnight's smile was as bright as Celestia's sun which contrasted with how she looked and showed off her inner beauty. And ever since that day, Midnight had stood by her side through thick and thin. She stood up to bullies, she talked to her, she included her even if Flurry Heart ruined something with her uncontainable magic, etc.
"I know it's October, but don't just stand there Flurry Heart… Say something. Anything. Don't you want it?" Flurry Heart snapped back into reality, turned her head towards her mother and grabbed it. She promised she wouldn't cry, but she did. "I-I love it…" Cadence smiled. "Remember, don't let anything get to you. Words may hurt, but you can power over those words like the magical goddess you are. You can break through like a snowstorm rumbling through a valley. You can break free of the chains of shyness or insecurity. You can enter the labor of LO-!" "Mommm… Enough with the cheesy lectures. I get it." "Alright dear. Love you." Cadence replied, planting a kiss on her daughter's nose. Flurry Heart put the necklace on and frowned. She didn't want those terrible bullies to ruin it… Those… Bullies…
