They had some momentum after she left. I think the show was pretty great until the end of season 2 when they all got executive ordered into celebrating a wedding for the prettiest pretty alicorn princess OC. And directly following that was EQG. The adventures of the mane 6… in high school.

Lots of people left then, good people with cool ideas and content to contribute. But enough new people were coming in that once the show writers managed to make a halfway decent season 4, the fandom kept going. Hasbro can't really stop the MLP fandom at this point; it's self-feeding. They were however able to get enough viewership to justify producing the show, until they decided to make it all about celebrating diversity… in high school.

The series was ruined long before season 9. When Lauren Faust left the Revolving Door Scriptwriting Co. Inc. phoned everything in.

The school of friendship really is what killed the show. As if they didn't learn when the fanbase was decimated after they rebooted the series on the premise "all the same characters except they're teens attending high school who like to rock out." They had to make a fantasy school for the fantasy characters; it made no sense because they were crowbarring it in for morel orels, and had no idea how to do it right. And the only viewers who actually like school are those pedophiles everyone's all worried about.

I think it was a mixture of different middle fingers they were giving. I got the impression that season 9 was full of seemingly thrown out ideas come back to the surface. For instance, the Twilight does the quiz game with Pinkie episode seems like something that would have been suggested early on in the character development of Twilight to double down on how she was a nerd and was still learning how to get along with the ponies in town. Seems like one middle finger is to the series ending when it did, so they did the minimum of effort and recycled old ideas.

Seems that the whole set up for the Pillars of Harmony was also trashed. You make six new characters, introduce them near the end of season 7, then their pay off is a single encounter with a shadow monster and they get talked down to and told they were wrong, then dropped as a plot element and only would occasionally appear as a side character. Seems like there was a disagreement to when the show was supposed to end which caused them to dive into the school of friendship to wrap up the whole storyline as fast as possible with the time remaining, or someone hated to write for the ancient Equestria arc and just said to trash it all.

Perhaps they were banking on the reboot pitch they had for G5 before that was changed into a continuation of the story that is a reboot in all but name. Maybe they wanted the show to be rebuilt the way they wanted it and not have to be good at writing, criticized by people who were actually invested instead of only blindly playing and purchasing the product for their kids. I can only guess I suppose. Still interesting to see how it spirals. Reminds me that I need to write a review of the whole thing sometime.

Oh I've heard the news howling about it a whole lot. I've just never heard any actual homosexual person say he wanted to groom kids.

And yes, most of season nine was a giant "fuck you" to the fans. It was like they were all "We got control of this series somehow and it's ending so let's ruin everything we possibly can before it's done."

I dunno, maybe they were trying to make people forget how good it used to be, so that they're easier marks for targetting them with future products. No happiness allowed, only frustration and longing!

You must have missed the kid they paraded around one of their parades that twerked for them and did news interviews about how he wanted to be a prostitute. Anecdotal stories about you not hearing about it doesn't change the fact of the matter that they do have this problem.

The worst part of the episode is more than queer baiting anyway. It is how they could write in at the last minute some selfish parents for Scootaloo to make a story about her standing against them to remain in Ponyville, which would have happened should they not have bothered to force this story. The whole thing was a waste of time to make shitty characters that would be forgotten and not impact the character development of the ones we already care about.

@Megalith

Yeah, pretty much. Well, except I've never heard any homosexual person ever say he wanted to groom kids. Quite a few heterosexual people though. Regardless, the episode wasn't about that. It deserves hatred for many other reasons.

I think we can Occam's Razor this to conclude that he is simply too dumb to correctly interpret and present what is happening, opting to parrot talking points. It is true there is a huge push to groom kids into the queer community for the purposes of pedophilia. However, the episode did not do that, instead opted for the normalization approach by simply having them exist instead of even discussing the nature or ramifications of their existence in the show.

They put the intentions behind the inclusion and missed the mark. Though I believe both to be behavior towards the same eventual end, clearly one approach warrants the response and the other needs to be addressed correctly. This is definitely not pedophilia, just done to check a box, cash a check, and confuse both the story and the minds of those watching. Scootaloo was considered an orphan canonically in season 6. She talked to Rainbow Dash as if the concept of having a family was something to value, ruined by her having both parents and caretakers that she is related to.

@Megalith

Such impertinence! I'm reporting to your supervisor! You'll never work in the comment section biz again!

But no I'm just parroting her(?) language because it's ironic. People falsely hurl about pedophilia charges when they're with some shady organization, fearmongering so they can take away more people's freedom and/or rob them blind, so it's actually good evidence that some investigation is needed.

Fired? From what? This is a comment section. Unless you are implying that you should be fired for saying things on the internet. I don't see the connection.
skybrook2

To be fair, that episode was complete and utter bullcrap.

But Julz Eastwood for instance needs to be fired and investigated for false accusations of PEDOPHILIA. Jesus Christ, the creepy, slimy deceit of these people…

Such a shame…

that this is the majority of what is under the hate speech tag. Disappointing lack of content and quality. Looks like we need to pick up the slack.
