Description: The Zebra's legions are relatively new in comparison to the illustrious history the Equestrian Royal Guard, first organized a little over two-centuries ago. In the time that has passed they have hardly shaken off their reputation from Equestrian observers as being "Common Rabble, arranged in ranks". And while they may be just slightly below the capabilities of their ennobled Equestrian state on the far side of the world, the impact of Equestria's institutions and its enthroned Spirit has not be absent from the military administration and history of the Zebras. And even besides their poor image among Equestrians are comparable in skill and determination to the largely aristocratic guard, even if drawn from the common and nobles alike.

The Legion came into existence under a program of reform and cultural shift under the Berbaro who had claimed the title of Caesar by election and sought to defend it by force. Under their discretion they turned to Equestrian models, whom they have had long exchanged with under Celestia. Bringing over Equestrian aristocrats to supervise the reformation of their otherwise irregular armies to construct a permanent standing army. While the Berbaro were eventually removed from power, the tribe that succeeded them, the Legarium retained the institution of the Legion and in consolidation attributed a relationship between the deposed kings and themselves by referring to themselves as Equis Orientalis. This brought into existence an all together new idea, the tribal coalition in not just politics but out cultural disposition and has not since been broken in the Zebra Lands. Since then, the Legion has been reformed into a shadow of itself, with only four full Legions being permanent standing forces, by way of the constitutive Legislature of the Kings. While additional Legions may be raised, they exist only on three year contract, and the four permanent legions are known as the Four Royal Legions.
