When she woke, her world was nothing but darkness and cold. She couldn't move, couldn't breath. The last thing she remembered was the windigos converging on her, and the bitter cold of the wind and snowflakes on her lashes. Despite not having a body, she could feel something pulling her. The closer she got, the warmer she felt. She kept going forward, so close it felt like a hot iron against her skin. A vision of her friends worrying about her, wondering where she was, if he was okay.

She reached out, grasping those memories and visions. She took them, wrapping them around herself. She could feel her body, her wings, and at once she lifted from the ground, spreading her wings while cutting through the air. She's could feel the air split around her, the faster she went. Soon enough, she could actually.. see something. The show under her hooves, her mane drifting in the wind. Had she been dreaming?

Then she noticed… herself. Clad in her winter jacket, laying motionless in the snow. Then she realized… She had died.

But she could still feel the warmth of those memories. Her friends. Turning to the windigos who caused her demise, she formed the purest light with her speed, creating the aurora borealis. The light destroyed the darkness within them, purifying their form.

Thus Rainbow Dash became the Aurora Borealis, Lord of the Wind.
