Description:

Celestia watched as Selene whimpered next to her. At the moment, they could only hear noises. Screams, mostly, but others such as growls and explosions of fire and magic.

She remembered mother and father had spoken of this war before it had even started.

“We cannot risk a war breaking out. It would destroy all the worlds below, Lu.” Ember stood over the table. The map of Equestria adorned from the crystal of the Earth below them shone, the only map showing the worlds above that no mere pony or griffon or dragon knew anything of.

They were the celestials. The alicorns. Nothing could reach the heights they lived at. Hundreds and thousands of miles above the Earth they lived and thrived as gods and goddesses. They were small in number, but strong and true in intention.

Celestia peeked from the doorway, watching as her parents spoke of the oncoming threat of the dracquoneci. They were growing in numbers and in strength, even accepting dark magic into their everyday lives, slowly letting it consume them with equal force of the light. They had threatened war on the alicorns. They wanted to be the only celestials that had all the true power, but the alicorns were still more powerful than the draquoneci.

War would be coming and they needed to avoid it and run or stay and fight and risk death from the more numerous quantities of draquoneci.

Lunar Shadow and Blazing Ember, the leaders of the alicorns had given birth to their second foal not long before talk of war began. It was almost her fifth birthday that year.

Celestia squeezed her eyes shut, blocking the memory from her mind.

Suddenly, though, there was a banging at the door. Celestia flinched, but as she felt her sister shaking next to her, she fought to stay controlled and not be afraid. For her baby sister. For Selene. Selene lay on the bed, still shaking as Celestia hesitantly approached the door as banging continued to shake its hinges.

Then she heard the deep, rough voice she recognized so dearly. “My ladies! Please open the door! I am here to take you to safety!”

Celestia unlocked the door swiftly and leapt into her head guards outstretched hooves. Celestia was certainly grown up for such a young foal, but she was still very much a young foal.

Their head guard, Pierced Dawn, was charged with their protection daily, but in the fray when the draquonecuus had just attacked, they had lost her, running out of sight, fearing for their lives.

“Let’s go fillies! Grab your things and let’s go!” Dawn hissed quietly. The windows and walls around Celestia and Selene were ringing with noises of battle, but the hallway behind Dawn was silent. It scared Celestia more than the noise.

When Selene was close enough to Dawn, the older mare picked her up by the scruff and swung her around on her back to carry her. Selene, who was carrying her bag unsteadily on her back, dropped it and whimpered. Celestia gave Selene a forceful look that said Stop that and stooped to pick her sister’s bag up.

Selene wrapped her hooves around Dawn’s neck and they turned tail to the hallway and ran. They ran until their hooves hurt. Celestia’s did, at least. Dawn pushed them to run faster, but Celestia could tell she was holding back a bit so as not to exhaust her. When they got to the exit and would have to leave Vana, who knew what they would run into.

Celestia wasn’t very trained. She was only eight and had barely begun to study her gems, but she had still brought them, along with every book she thought she would need. She would have to learn how to fight after they escaped this.

The draquoneci would be after her and Selene.

Halfway through the castle, Dawn spun and pressed her hoof against Celestia’s mouth, shushing her. She also used her wings to cover Selene as much as she could.

Celestia heard it. She heard the whistling. It grew louder and louder until she felt it was upon them, when-

The entire southern wall was blown away, only a shield from Dawn blocking the shattered glass and stone from hitting the three of them. Two male alicorns were going head to head with a draquonecus, both losing badly. The draquonecus had sharp teeth and long, needle-like claws that could slice her neck open with one easy move. Celestia felt a shiver travel through her spine.

This was it.

But then, her body felt light and she was suddenly at the edge of the territory. Dawn had teleported them. If she looked to her left, she knew she would be able to see the fighting and the blood being spilled. Part of her wanted to look so badly. To say goodbye to her home and to the alicorns she loved so dearly.

But the part of her that won didn’t want to see the devastation and wanted to remember Vana as what she loved. A peaceful land of love and beauty.

Just as Dawn was about to send Celestia down the mountain, a thud happened two feet from the small white foal. A shadow outlined her hooves on the ground. A growl made her fur and feathers fluff up in pure terror and as she turned, she met eyes with a bloodstained grin.

“Well, well, well. The pretty daughters served up on a platter for me. Is this not the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen.” the draquonecus drew her forked tongue over her lips and red colored fangs. “Gaia will be pleased with my doing. She may even let me marry her son. How beautiful, Queen Fraya of the Draquoneci!”

She must have not seen Dawn, because at that moment, her smile disappeared as two hooves appeared in front of Celestia.

Dawn stood above her, Selene right behind her. “Make one more move and I will end your life. Please don’t make me do this in front of them.” If Celestia had not seen her stance, she might have thought Dawn was pleading for mercy, but the way she stood, Dawn was not looking to give up.

The draquonecus was quiet for a moment, then laughed mightily, the sound shaking in Celestia’s ears. Celestia swallowed thickly.

“Fine then.” Dawn snarled and charged, jabbing her shielded horn into the draquonecus’s unguarded chest. The draquonecus gargled, but snarled back and snapped Dawn’s horn off, shocking the red alicorn.

Dawn didn’t wince, but simply gasped and grabbed hold of the princesses and their things, flying from the edge of Vana and towards the unknown.

Celestia and Luna's home, the home of the Celestials (greater beings e.g. Draquoneci and Alicorns) is being destroyed by the Draquoneci. The world from above where they live is called Vana (hence the title "Fall of Vana.") The Draquoneci started the war because they wanted to be the only great and powerful gods.

The pony standing over Celestia and Luna is Pierced Dawn. She is their personal guard and helps rescue them from the middle of the battle of the Alicorns and the Draquoneci. She takes them to the world below (where Equestria is) to keep them safe and away from harm.

Also it mentions that Celestia's parents are named Lunar Shadow and Blazing Ember. They haven't been introduced yet, but are mentioned

Luna is also called Selene, but after all this, when they discover their parents are dea, she refuses to be called Selene and instead chooses the name Luna.

Also, Luna doesn't have her horn or wings yet. This is an indication that she is too young to have them. When an alicorn is young, they are born without their powerful magic or beautiful wings or strong, skillful hooves. They are born powerless, so to know how to appreciate their power and earn it through selfless acts. When an alicorn performs a truly selfless act, he or she is gifted with magic, wings, and strength beyond their comprehension.

Alicorns don't have cutie marks. Celestia and Luna's will be explained later on.

This is our headcanon of the MLP universe and where Celestia and Luna came from
