Mulberry experiments with the bugs a bit, and moves the locket a bit to see if they follow it. From what she can tell they don't care about it very much.

She decides to try and carve some safety runes in order to get closer to the cabinet with the booze.

While doing this, she notices some of the bugs starting to wander away. As she goes along, she spots something a bit concerning coming from the corner of her eye. The top of the stairs seems to be engulfed in a strong, unnatural darkness.
