Spike and AJ by TheBrokenCOG
Applejack was more than a little nervous when Spike volunteered to go out and collect firewood that afternoon. Ever since he'd (unintentionally) made a mess of the kitchen that very first time he helped Granny Smith bake pies, AJ was afraid that Spike would accidently end up hurting himself. But he was just a little kid back then.
Now that they were married, her husband had proven himself in the kitchen (as well as the bedroom). The least she could do was allow him to do Big Mac's chores while her brother was making a delivery to a customer out of town. Spike had finished painting the fence earlier that morning — and taken off his shirt because of the heat (even though it was early autumn… and he didn't want to get paint on his flannel) — now he was chopping enough logs so that they would have heat and warmth through the winter.
As Applejack made her way out to the woodpile on the edge of the forest, carrying the pie she had baked just for him, she couldn't help but feel a little ridiculous in the gown Spike had made for her. (I guess all those years of shadowing Rarity in her boutique had been worth something after all.) AJ hated getting "gussied up", but she knew how much Spike loved her. She also knew how much he loved seeing her in dresses — he always said she looked beautiful in them — and when she let her hair down.
"He says the sweetest things…" she sighed in thought.
She was still amazed that he had correctly guessed her measurements. He even gave it a little breathing room so that it wouldn't fit too tight. And a good thing too, few more weeks and Applejack wouldn't be able to hide the bump that was slowly beginning to develop. She made the decision to tell him right then and there.
"Apple Spice" sounded like a good name for a daughter or a son.
