Description:

History: The Nyland Regiment of Foot was an infantry regiment formed in 1633 in Nyland, or Uusimaa, Finland, which at the time was an integrated region of the Kingdom of Sweden.

In 1710, the entire regiment was re-established due to it being captured after the Battle of Poltava in 1709 and the Siege of Riga in 1710. It later participated in the Finnish War in 1808 under the command of Georg Carl von Döbeln. Following the defeat one year later, the regiment disbanded after the overall commander of the Swedish forces in Finland, General Major Hans Henrik Gripenberg capitulated to the Russians. He was later called before court-martial in Stockholm for his actions, but the Russian emperor, Alexander I forbade him to appear in court and he remained in Finland, which now became a duchy in the Russian Empire.
