Sapphire Shores and Songbird Serenade met as most in their career field did, through networking and mutual friends. A handful of performers joined together for one of Songbird's many charity events, and the two instantly hit it off. Both were huge personalities in Equestria and unafraid of being themselves, clearly looking forward to work with each other the next time they got the chance. Over the next few years, the two would meet up for performances, fundraisers, or albums. Sapphire and Songbird grew to be great friends and bonded over many things, including their spoiled pets and experiences growing up. Sapphire adored Songbird's spunky nature and calm demeanor, and Songbird greatly enjoyed the company of such a confident, sassy mare.
Sapphire was the one who initiated the romantic part of their relationship, always going for exactly what she wanted out of life. Songbird's response of 'yeah, I'm down" might have sounded casual, but internally she was jumping with joy. All of their fans, forever supportive, were more than excited to see the two pair up and if anything, looked forward to more collaborated music. The long distance the dealt with during tours occasionally put a strain in the relationship, but they did their best to make up for lost time with plenty of presents, spoiling their pets, and spending a few quiet nights away from the public ordering all their favorite take-out. Sapphire, more so than Songbird, spoils her girlfriend rotten just as she does with anyone important to her, giving constant gifts with the excuse "I saw it and thought of you". Songbird insists that she'd be perfectly happy without all the presents, but can hardly deny loving all the attention her partner gives her.
When the two decided to have a child, they had been married for a little over a year. Both had plenty of funds to pull from to conceive, carry a child, and take all the necessary time off (even though Songbird Serenade was insistent on performing only a month away from her due date). Songbird kept her usual docile demeanor during pregnancy, occasionally to the point of being completely unsettling when something probably should have angered her. After plenty of excitable waiting, Songbird gave birth to their daughter, Nightingale. She was born with what Songbird calls "the most lovely shade of powder blue hair" from Sapphire's side and ended up developing vision loss from Songbird's side. Fortunately, with Songbird's experience and Sapphire's need to spoil their filly with whatever she needed, Nightingale learned quickly to be independent and confident, regardless of any disability.
