Ev’s attention was quickly arrested to an expected knock on the door to her office. She informed her butler to always allow a certain pony in the house as this particular pony was Ev’s key to success.
“Here are the last of the potions,” stated the strange stallion who used his magic to levitate a bottle with a pale mixture inside. You see, every week this stallion who specialised in illegal magic and potions would deliver customised mixtures to the ambitious doctor. Ev knew that if she was caught doing business with this stranger, she would find herself in quite a lot of trouble, perhaps even be stripped on her title as a doctor. However, this didn’t stop the mare, she was desperately close to finishing her spell and this was the last little bit she needed to finally obtain magic for herself.
“Thank you, my butler will give you the money on your way out.”
“Not so fast,” the stranger said, putting his hoof in the way of the door so Ev could not close it, “you have high status, so you can afford to put some extra gold in the pockets of some poor poor pony. Hand over $25,000 or Princess Amore may just hear a little rumour that the best doctor in the Empire is playing with some dark, dark magic.”
Ev took a moment to process such words, before being overwhelmed with anger and anxiety. There was absolutely no way the Princess should hear word of how she plans to achieve her goal, but what the stranger demanded was more than double to agreed price for the potions. Still, her blasphemous goal of being the first pegasus to obtain magic like that of a unicorn was all that plagued her mind.

“There is no way!” Ev spitted, “We agreed on a set price, why would you blackmail me?”
“I’m just a mere commoner who wouldn’t mind seeing the rich burn,” the stranger was not playing games, dangling the bottle in front of Ev teasingly before grinning, “I’ve planned this since we started business a year ago. I don’t give two damns about your life goals, all I request are some funds and I’ll be out of your hair.”
Ev furrowed her brows before swiftly yanking the bottle out of his magical grasp, “I’m not going to waste my funds or the bottle on someone as pathetic as you. Be glad I haven’t reported your ‘business’ to the Princess.” Ev kept the bottle under her wing so the stallion could not use his magic to yank it back. He, however, did not seem phased, simply grinning before letting out a small chuckle, “you’ve dug your own grave Doctor, just remember this when guards start knocking at your door.”
