Description:

Some Flurry Heart and Duke Hunter doodles I came up with to describe their relationship before things changed.

1.
“Sometimes it’s better to put royal duties aside, little bro.”

At 16, Flurry Heart had the best relationship with her little brother. They would play together, practice magic, flick foodstuffs each other across the dinner table, things good siblings do. Flurry Heart gave him advice about certain things, like hold your head up when addressing the public, or use your royal blood voice to gain attention. This was the time when Duke actually liked Flurry Heart, back when they could tell each other anything, back when he didn’t feel like the sore of the family.

She would take him flying around the castle and show him spells, and every time he would follow behind her more and more. You couldn’t tear him away from her for even a second, he always wanted to know what she was doing and never wanted to be left out of anything magic related. The two of them were close, of course, at that time.

2.
“I thought he was fibbin’ when he said his sister was an alicorn princess.”

“Our apologies, Princess Flurry Heart.”

As he got older, Duke would wander out of the castle at night, for whatever reasons. He had decided to take a short cut through a rundown neighborhood, where two larger colts attempted to rob him of his bits until Flurry Heart showed up to chase them off with a sparks of electricity from her horn, watching them run off into the night.

Flurry was furious after bringing him back to the castle, still bewildered as to how he got past not only the guards, but his parents. Thankfully, she told him she wouldn’t tell, as long as whenever he wanted to go out, he would let her know. Duke was lucky she didn’t stop him from leaving the castle at all, and he knows that, but he still can’t help but feel a little embarrassed by walking into town with Flurry Heart behind him.

3.
Duke Hunter was born when Flurry Heart was around 12, and though the pre-teen was all above happy, she was also a bit pushy. She always insisted on seeing her little brother in his crib just to watch and admire him, she always offered to get his food and watch over him, and when Cadence and Shining Armour were busy with their duties, Flurry would volunteer to watch him.

The idea of Flurry Heart and her watching a baby was nerve wracking for Cadence and Shining. Flurry behaved like a child herself, and her caring for a smaller one was a bit unsettling. Still, they trusted Flurry with what had to be done, and though there were some certain things that only her parents could give Duke, she provided him with all the things she could.

4.
After Flurry and Dukes relationship broke apart, Duke Hunter took it upon himself to make himself look better. Starting at only 13, he trained with the same guard everyday, who pushes and yelled at him, giving him the occasional slap over the head if he failed to complete a task. He would look at his father as an example of what he needed to look like. His father was a strong, muscular stallion, and even stronger at will. He was exactly what Duke wanted and needed to be.

So imagine Duke walking into the dining room, shirtless, with a royal robe on.

**

So something bad happened between Duke and Flurry that ultimately led to their almost horrible relationship now. Duke doesn't like to talk about it, and he likes being in the presence of his sister even less. Above all, he chooses to push down his feelings and refuses to admit that, just a little, he misses his sister.
