Description:

“C’mon Sol, we’re almost there!”

Zapple Pie and Solar Flare soared over Ponyville, with the hippogriff hybrid practically flying in circles around her friend. Sol chuckled at the ridiculous flying pattern as they neared their destination.

“Do you even know how to fly straight, Zap?” She teased.

“Please, I do nothing straight!” Zapple giggled, continuing to glide through the air like a leaf. Sometimes she was upside down, sometimes she was right side up. Either way, her flying was as chaotic as could be.

As they landed in front of Sugarcube Corner, Solar Flare’s smirk faltered. “You sure you wanna introduce me to your mom? I’m not really good with… parents.”

Zap blew a raspberry, tongue poking out from her beak as drops of spittle shot into the air. “Don’t worry! My mom is super cool! She’s not like a normal mom, she was the Element of Laughter, for Celestia’s sake!”

With a small nod to signal she was, hesitantly, ready, Solar followed Zapple as she trotted into the bakery. The tall mare looked around for another pony in the shop, only spying piles of sweet treats. But it wasn’t more than a second before a pair of bright blue eyes appeared through a crack in the back door and were immediately followed by a chubby pink pony bounding into the front of the bakery to meet them.

“You must be Zap’s friend!” Pinkie excitedly shrieked as she bounced, showing Sol exactly where Zap’s ridiculous energy source came from.

The yellow mare froze, shocked not only by the sudden appearance but by the extreme intensity of the pony in front of her. A front leg lifted up, as if Sol threatened to scuttle back into the wall, but before she could move, Zapple had lifted up onto her back legs and hooked her front legs around the pegasus, a friendly and playful gesture.

“This is Solar Flare, Mom! The one who really likes those birdseed cookies!” Zap chirped happily, giving Sol a smile that made the pegasus melt for a moment. But realizing how her expression might make her look, Solar Flare cleared her throat and looked back to Pinkie Pie, who was still moving up and down like a bouncy ball hitting the floor.

“It’s nice to meet you, ma’am.” Solar tried her best to be polite, if only to make a good first impression for Zapple Pie’s sake, and moved her hoof forward as if trying to shake Pinkie’s.

“Oh, goodness! No hoofshakes here, sweetie! We hug in this family!” Pinkie giggled, already launching herself towards the pegasus. She wrapped both Sol and Zap into a tight snuggle, giving a much quieter ‘it’s nice to meet you too’.

Solar Flare didn’t know how to react to the sudden hug at first. It wasn’t that she didn’t enjoy physical affection, she simply wasn’t used to it. But being sandwiched by Pinkie and Zapple Pie made her hesitate from pulling away, enjoying the attention for a moment. When an alarm went off in the back, the hug ended and Pinkie turned away before glancing back with a large grin on her face.

“I made some cookies if you’d like to have a snack, Solar Flare! Don’t blame ya if you’d rather spend some alone time with Zapple while I finished up in the kitchen!” Pinkie Pie winked mischievously and Zap squawked in disbelief, moving off of Sol and chasing her mother.

“Mooooom! Don’t be weird!” She huffed, clearly growing embarrassed. Not as embarrassed as Solar, however, who had turned a bright shade of red.

“Uh, cookies sound good!” The pegasus blurted out, following Pinkie into the kitchen and desperately trying to avoid glancing at Zapple. Long after they pulled out the fresh batch of sweets from the oven and had begun talking about other things, Zap and Sol were still pink with blush, desperately trying to ignore it.
