This piece was made for the Equestria Daily New Artist Training Grounds, under the prompt, "Draw a pony experiencing your most cherished memory." And for me, that would be the final night of my childhood cottage, watching a meteor shower. The grass was damp from recent rainfall, the smell of the recently cleared weather sung in the air. Everyone else had gone to bed, assuming that we wouldn't see the shower, but just past midnight, I had snuck out to find that, by some miracle, the clouds had departed swiftly. I cast my gaze to the sky, and bore witness to a moment that I hope to never forget.
I would like to take some time to also discuss why Twilight was chosen for this one. I would have chosen her because of the color anyways, but Twilight as a character has a lot of traits that I connected to growing up. I was always the quiet one who didn't make friends and just focused on my studies, and I had a long streak of nervous breakdowns and overreactions; both in her flaws and in her strengths, I saw a lot of twilight in myself, save for the whole "having friends" deal. So, in many ways I see my younger self in Twilight, and I couldn't think of a better pony to stand in for this moment.
Sometimes, it is best to forget the world of artifice we have created and gaze upon nature, upon the world as it really is, and behold true beauty before us.
