Celestia and Luna Headcanons
Thought I would draw up the two sisters as well, hope y'all like it!

Headcanons:


-Celestia and Luna both around 2,500 years old (Luna being slightly younger)

-Their hair moves in a non-existent breeze constantly when they are at their full potential. This is because they contain so much magic, the magic starts to leak into their hair. Cadence and Twilight can also have this effect, but only when using very powerful magic because they are lower tier alicorns and contain less magic than the two sisters.

-They aren’t princesses, they are queens. Luna is the Queen of the Night, and Celestia is Queen of the Sun.

-Celestia wasn’t always the sweet, motherly ruler she currently is. In the beginnings of Equestia, Celestia was the sole ruler of the nation, as Luna was still too young to begin ruling alongside her. Celestia was a she cold, cunning, and ruthless ruler, the world was a cruel place and she had to use force to keep her young nation safe. She conquered multiple other hostile nations during her early rule, and many both feared and respected her.

-As Luna grew and began to take on royal duties, she felt as if she was always in Celestia’s shadow. Their subjects enjoyed Celestia’s daytime more than her night, Celestia was more respected, and no one ever took Luna’s authority seriously. When Luna tried to voice her worries to her sister, the younger and more naive Celestia brushed them aside.

-When Luna retaliated and became consumed by Nightmare Moon, Celestia still didn’t take Luna seriously. She thought Luna was being childish, and her worries were nothing to be upset about. When Celestia had enough fighting, she attempted to harness the Elements of Harmony to cleanse Luna of Nightmare Moon, but she couldn't. Celestia knew nothing about friendship, she wasn't capable of using the magic of friendship. Celestia, fearing for herself, cast a spell to banish her sister for 1,000 years. Celestia was broken, it felt as if her entire being collapsed onto itself. She didn’t take her beloved sister seriously, she didn't give her sister the compassion she needed. Because of her, Luna was banished to the moon. Celestia thought she knew everything, but she didn't know how to harness the Elements of Harmony. Because of her, her sister was gone.

-Celestia went to her mentor, Starswirl the Bearded, about her problems. He helped her change how she ruled and how she presented herself to the public. She became a much more compassionate and warm ruler, the kind of pony she should’ve been to her sister. She opened a magic school for foals to get closer to her subjects, which is how she met Twilight. Celestia hoped to learn friendship herself, and to teach it to her pupils in hopes that someone could use the Elements or Harmony when her sister returned.

-After 1,000 years, the banishment spell cast by the Elements of Harmony was broken and Nightmare Moon returned. When Twilight and her friends were able to harness the Elements of Harmony and rid Luna of Nightmare Moon, Celestia was overjoyed. She missed her sister so much, and learned to appreciate her sister’s feelings and treat her as an equal. Since then, the two sisters ruled alongside each other.

-Celestia and Luna were somewhat awkward for the majority of their rule. They didn’t have friends, their whole lives were dedicated to becoming the best rulers Equestria could have. Their jobs were important, they felt that they didn’t have the time for things like friends and fun and hobbies. But, as time went on, they learned to come out of their royal shells and engage in “normal pony” activities. They learned how to make actual friends, they tried new things, and began to find other joys in life besides their royal duties. Celestia enjoys thrill seeking. Roller coasters, sky diving, zip lining, you name it. She likes excitement, which she hardly gets out of a lot of her royal duties. Luna is the opposite of this. Traveling from dream to dream to help other ponies in the night is hard work, and she enjoys relaxing activities like knitting, nature walks, writing, and listening to music
