Description:

When I tell you that I am SO excited for MLP Generation 5! I haven't been drawing recently and I'm recovering from a bad case of a insomnia that literally stopped me from writing/drawing all together, so this sketch/rough piece is all I could fathom doing but I had to get this idea out there.

I absolutely love the concept of Gen 5 taking place centuries after Gen 4, to the point where the Mane Six have become legends or myths like that of Starswirl. Going off Gen 4’s habit, I wouldn’t put it past them to have this new show take place a thousand years after the events of Friendship is Magic but we don’t have a concrete time jump yet so this is just my theory atm.

I really want to see Spike come back in Gen 5 as a Celestia ‘mentor’ figure to Sunny and co. because it was confirmed that Twilight wouldn’t outlive her friends and that dragons live for hundreds, if not thousands of years, so Spike (and Discord of course) is probably the only character left that remembers FiM. It would be so interesting to see an older, more jaded Spike whose been forced to watch Equestrian tear itself apart and grown bitter and lonely, but wise, find himself again and decide to help Sunny and her friends in order to honour the Mane Six’s memory.

Plus, how painful would it be to see Spike mourn his friends and family while Sunny is just so excited to find a first hand source that knew the Twilight Sparkle. There is so much potential for angst my dudes I really hope they bring Spike back.

Heck, one idea I had was that Spike had to go into one of those thousand year sleeps like the dragon from Season 1 of FiM and slept while guarding the remains of Ponyville, only being woken up by Sunny and co. to find everything in ruins and Equestria torn apart without any idea of what happened. Because I doubt that Spike would sit back and let Equestria fall apart, and maybe when magic disappeared it put him into a coma because it was Twilight’s magic that helped him hatch in the first place, so perhaps if Sunny and Co. were to reawaken the Magic of Friendship in the film coming out next month, that could wake Spike up too?

And a part of me found the idea of Izzy Moonbow—a unicorn who loves to create and has long blueish wavy hair—having a crush on an older, adult Spike hilarious because Spike would finally realise how awkward Rarity must’ve felt and I just love that parallel (of course he wouldn’t reciprocate it cause he is wayyyyy too old for her but it would funny to have him be on Rarity’s perspective cause Izzy is seriously similarity her it’s kinda weird and I would feel uncomfortable if they had Spike project his past feelings for Rarity onto her though).
