With the success of Discord's Steam Tea, other creatures are wanting to jump on the bandwagon, including Spike. Canterlot had gotten a new shunting yard and it needed someone to help keep it in order. The number one assistant volunteer to help out until a permanent shunter could be found. Discord was curious to test the steamified creatures' flexibility and design, thus why the style of Spike's face looks so different from Smolder's.
