“Oh but Movie” I hear you say, “Van Helsing isn’t a werewolf movie, there’s other monsters in i-”

It’s a werewolf movie! It has the best werewolves in movie history, shut up and take it, gosh dangit! They’re the only reason this movie is worth watching anymore. That and, just think we could’ve had a Dark Universe based on this setting and not the 2017 Mummy.

What a missed opportunity.

…What? It's just Doggie Slate, sitting there, being an absolute pile of fluff. I don't have a problem, don't judge me! I can quit drawing Doggie Slate anytime I want!

I have an interesting story with "Van Helsing", which, yeah I might as well summarise. I watched it in 2004 and thought it was at best a guilty pleasure, but most definitely not a good movie. Then "The Mummy (2017)" came out and suddenly I found new appreciation for "Van Helsing", because sure it's doing the whole crossover thing but it's tonally consistent, charmingly camp, and at least the characters are relatively likeable.

If Universal wanted to make a Monster Verse, they should've combined Van Helsing with the Mummy movies starring Brendan Fraser. What was stopping them anyway?
