“I know, right?” Applejack replied with glee. “When I was lookin’ around the store, I saw this one employee at the counter. She had some pretty short hair, too. So, it had me thinkin’ about what it’d be like if I had short hair myself.”
“I see.” The bedridden girl nodded, still trying to comprehend what she’s looking at.
“So right after I bought these clothes, I was steppin’ out of the store when I saw the hair salon across the street was offerin’ a discount…”
“And you decided to pay for that,” the fat fashionista stated frankly.
“Yep!” Applejack continued to explain, “I knew I wanted my hair shorter, but I wasn’t sure how short yet. So, they gave me a magazine with all sorts of different hairstyles. And somethin’ about this look really caught my eye. So, I thought ‘Why not? It’s just hair. It’ll grow back.’ And you know what? I’m really likin’ it! And I got you to thank for that.”
Taken aback by that last part, Rarity simply asked, “Uh… really?”
“Course! You’ve been tellin’ me I should try somethin’ new. And I’m glad I did! So, what do you think?” Applejack asked giddily.
Quiet at first, Rarity wasn’t sure how to best express her thoughts. “I…”
“You… don’t like it.” Applejack’s smile began to lower.
“I… don’t hate it.” Rarity tried to say cheerfully, hoping it would be of some help. Nonetheless, Applejack just looked rather disappointed. “I’m sorry, Darling, but it’s such a jarring change. You had this naturally earnest and rustic look. Now it’s… whatever that is.”
“Well, I’m happy with whatever this is. Not just cause it looks nice, it’s also a whole lot easier to manage. Doesn’t get in the way anymore. Ain’t a hassle to wash either. You are the one who keeps bringin’ up that I don’t wash my hair good enough anyway,” the country girl smirked.
Rarity sighed as she crossed her arms and rolled her eyes. “If you say so. Besides, it’s like you said. It’ll grow back.”
“Actually, I might wanna keep it like this,” Applejack stated as she turned towards Rarity’s mirror, lightly combing her fingers through her new hair. “It’s hard to explain, but I kinda wanna stick with this look for a while. And since I’ll be seein’ all my relatives this Thanksgivin’, some of them for the first time in a long time, I kinda wanna show off the new me.”
Eyes widened, Rarity was actually a bit impressed by Applejack’s sudden tenacity with her appearance, even feeling her chubby cheeks blushing a bit. “Goodness, you really are taking my advice seriously, then. Well, if you really are happy with your hair, then I can learn to like it too. Plus, in all fairness, that outfit you chose is quite dashing.”
Applejack turned towards her heavyset girlfriend, simply blushing back as she shrugged modestly, “Thanks, Sugar Cube.”
“I’m just concerned with what your relatives will think when they finally see you this week.”
“Oh, yeah,” Applejack chuckled. “I wonder what’ll be a bigger surprise for them, my haircut or my weight.”
