Freya was just a few months old, when she started having her magic surges. Discord and Fluttershy didn’t think much of it, since it’s normal for unicorns and Discord said he had the same surges, when he was a baby. It seemed relatively harmless, since she was mostly sprouting flowers and plants all over the house, instead of laserbeams like Flurry Heart.
At least that’s what they thought…
Fluttershy had invited Rainbow over for tea and to give her some advice on giving birth. The visit was going peacefully, until Freya started crying. Discord tried to calm her down, thinking she was only hungry, but her horns suddenly started glowing and bouts of electricity started forming around her. Freya started screaming and thrashing in Discord’s arms, as he tried to figure out what was happening, but before he could secure her, Freya lifted Rainbow with her magic and both of their eyes started to form a spilar pattern. Fluttershy watched in horror, as her friend turned into dull colors, remembering the terrifying ordeal they had to go through, to catch and change her back. At the same time she was terrified for her daughter’s safety. Suddenly, Freya passed out and Discord handed her to Fluttershy carefully, before turning to change Rainbow back. After going to Twilight, to ask for help, she said that the baby was perfectly fine and Freya seems healthy as well. It would seem, that Freya has both harmonious and chaos magic and must find a balance, when using her magic. That’s why she had an extreme surge or overflow of chaos magic, because she wasn’t using it.
Discord, Fluttershy and Rainbow agreed, to forget this incident, but after Rainbow had her foal, ponies started asking questions. Discord was terrified of what would ponies think of his baby girl and pleaded with Rainbow to blame him for this. Ponies have already hated him in the past, he doesn’t mind a bit of a backlash. But for his daughter to go through the same thing, breaks his heart entirely. He knew she would face bullying for the way she looks, when she starts school, but for them to have more of a reason to judge and fear her, he’ll gladly take the bullet for her.
