This moment is deeper than you'd expect and I don't mean the scene as whole, but this exact frame. Why?
The reason is because Hitch Trailblazer has technically done something worse than what Sprout Cloverleaf did all of Sunny Starscout's childhood; been pals with Sunny, but never being truly on her side and just listening blindly to what others say about pegasi and unicorns.
Hitch Trailblazer was not a good friend believe it or not until after this moment when he looked at Sunny Starscout's picture and realized just how deep she was hurt about everything and the struggle she was going through to end this hatred at such a young age to even now.
The moment Hitch Trailblazer looked at that image is when he realized that he needed to be a better friend and you could see him start to come out of his shell little by little. It only took him to listen to a little song (which in reality was probably just a speech by Izzy Moonbow and advice of how to fit in, but a song for kids would be more entertaining than just showing what really happened through words) that he began to appreciate the idea more and more.
Hitch Trailblazer was actually sad to say goodbye to the very ponies he feared all his life or at least was pier pressured into believing they were evil. Hitch Trailblazer has more layers than we give him credit for.
For those who don't believe me, try imagining the moments in your life when you brought up something you believed in, but someone brings up a fact that makes you completely change your mind. Nowadays it's easier to accept these facts by researching them online. It is mostly our pride (even if we don't admit it) that is the true reason we don't want to believe it even if deep down we know this.
Pride blinds everyone and it unfortunately does to me all the time. I make rash judgements because I dislike something and when hit with reality I cannot seem to accept it until I'm ready, but sometimes by then it's too late.
Hitch Trailblazer is lucky to have met those who can forgive him. All it took was him to step closer to that fire with the group. If he went somewhere else for shelter and warmth than he most likely would just have gone home after the night was done.
He chose to grow as a person and the picture of Sunny's hope sealed it for him.
