After the Lunar-Crystal War, the Imperial Lunar Military and State Security Directorate launched Operation Cotterkey, a secret program to locate, capture, and recruit willing servants of King Sombra who held unique skillsets in magical, military, or even political matters. Given the choice of facing punishment or being given protection and work, many jumped at the offer presented and went quietly. Some resisted but were eventually captured and recruited. And then there were the ones who really, really resisted, and took some serious convincing.
