Pastel has never felt particularly close to his mother's side of the family.
He only met them after he turned 7 as Rainbow dumped him on Double Diamond after her was born.

Although his grandparents mean well, they love their daughter too much to acknowledge her less positive attributes. Pastel thought Scootaloo would be similar but the little Bat Pony saw he was hurting and did everything to make him feel like he had family that loved him for his accomplishments and wanted to know him.
Scoots is in regular contact with Double Diamond and does a lot for Pastel. She comes to his surfing competitions and writes him letters about life in Ponyville and how she and his friends are doing when he's back with his dad.

Pastel calls her Auntie Loo and he considers her to be his confidant and best friend.
